I find if I put simple photos here not much is said.

Nice catch, looks a touch soft. The sky above the bird doesn't offer much to the picture, i might crop it out if i were you.

The breast of the bird is also blown out leaving very little detail there.Somewhat forgivable though as the sharp contrast between black and white is very confusing to the camera's meter. This wasnt taken with a G7 was it?

Not that I know much of anything but I definitely like the cropped version better--it draws the eye to the bird much more. Great pic by the way!!!

hair soft. not enough fly space to the right. the crop for the top id like would be 1/2 way between the ones posted.

hTr: The cropped shot is great! Perfect job on the crop. The added contrast and color is very nice here. There are still those few technical things left like the blow out and the slight face softness, but overall you drastically improved this shot!

wanted to comment on why I didn't mention the blowout.
It looks to me like you were either going to blow it out in that area or get no details in the head and back.
In that situation Id take the blowout if its in a non-critical area and get the details.

That is many time the difference in wildlife photos and studio shots there are always trade offs in wildlife sometimes the best you can do is gat a shot. Sometimes the subject cooperates and lets you maybe make a exposure change. But if you are detected or not quick you will lose the shot altogether.

No, It was a 20D, I cropped it some, see what you thinkI can see a very slight, but visible halo around the bird in this image Gary.

Did you shoot this in RAW?

<This is where you say "Yes, is there another kind?">

If so, just re-open the image and darken it a bit till the breast looks correct and then open it again and adjust it for the rest of the image. Merge the two together with some creative masking and you have a winner!

Also:

Camera Make: Canon
Camera Model: Canon EOS 20D
Image Date: 2007:03:08 16:15:12
Flash Used: No
Focal Length: 700.0mm
CCD Width: 3.43mm
Exposure Time: 0.0020 s (1/500)
Aperture: f/6.3
ISO equiv: 200
Exposure Bias: 1.00 - That explains the blown light colors. ;)
White Balance: Auto
Exposure: aperture priority (semi-auto)
