I'm stir crazy waiting for summer. While I love winter and photographing now — and in many ways it's winter that defines the boreal forest — there just are so many photographic goals I want to accomplish this summer that I'm chomping at the bit.

Every once in awhile I go through last summer's images, remembering how it was and planning how it will be. Here are a few still-lifes to share. All with the 100-400L IS at 400mm.

Thanks, Gerry. I picked up a full set of extension tubes last fall, which will allow the 100-400L to focus down to about two feet, and that will make it almost a true macro lens, though an unwieldy and BIG one.

I have the extension tubes too. I've used them when shooting hummers. It's helps to get a bit closer to the little buggers for a larger picture.
I agree with you, I'm really looking forward to summer in the north country too! I would have been out looking for sheds by now if we hadn't got this last batch of snow. I'm anxious to get my trail cameras out in the woods too but the nights are still a bit cold for the batteries.

I second those thoughts, I've been going crazy too.

I'll vote yes on that.
Nice bug pics Steve.

Nice shots. I can't wait myself. We are going to the Fredrick Meijer Gardens tomorrow, they have an indoor butterfly show going for a couple of months. All i have is a cheap lens. But hope to get some shots this nice.

Another vote for summer, heck, I'd take actual spring!

I like the first pic the best.
