Hi All

Let's Play this game: Alphabet Photos.

Description: Post a photo of a subject that begin with one of the Alphabet letters, e.g. B: Banana Shot.

Here are the Rules:

1- The shots are in order of the Alphabet Letters: A > B > C > .... > Z. Then start again from A.

2- Only one Letter be accepted for each shot, means if 2 or more shots posted with same letter then only the first shot will be considered and the rest will be ignored.

3- Any ignored shot can be used again, ONCE ONLY.

4- NO REPEATED Shots: e.g.: B in first round was Banana, then Banana can't be used again as shot in any rounds.

5- No one can submit more than 2 times in one round, means you can submit TWICE MAXIMUM from A to Z in one round.

6- No one can submit 2 following letters shots at the same time, so keep the shots separated, each in a reply or a post.

7- Keep it Simple as possible .

8- Keep it clear and post items that names begin with the Letter and not names of the brands, such as: C = Canon. F= Ferrari.

9- GOOD LUCK ALL.

Let's the game begin.....

I am the first.

In fact this shot is not so preferable or considered.
I prefer to photograph a real things than toys which look-like the real.
If you can't find real Gorilla then try something else, i want to keep this Game as real specific shots rather than toys, i can post tiger toys as letter T but that is not accepted.:)

Sorry mate, NO offended but try again.:)

Ok ill play ,

H = Heron ( Blue Heron )

Hope i didnt break the rules ......

the Heron is not clear in the shot, but we will not accept this post as Letter G is ignored.
so try again with G or try another better clear shot of H after G will be submitted again.

Tareq
11th of March 2007 (Sun), 10:33
4hero, you can submit 2 times in each round. so if you can submit something else and wait a while to submit again in same round not following your first submit then you're Welcome.

Sorry people if the rules are so strict, but i want this game to be more challenging and keep the shots free from toy-like, BUT you can post a Toy as T letter no problem [Then it will be once in the game then].

Good Luck to all.

cylentka

Koi is the name of the fish. I think that is the Japanese name, but not sure. Also known as goldfish.

from wiki

koi, pronounced IPA: [kɔɪ]) are ornamental domesticated varieties of the common carp Cyprinus carpio, originated from China and widely spread in Japan. They are very closely related to goldfish and, in fact, the style of breeding and ornamentation has become very similar, probably through the efforts of Japanese breeders to emulate goldfish.

I understand (from Tareq's first post) that the primary subject in each contribution should start with the next letter in the alphabet, there's less scope for interpretation in this thread (which is a good thing).

Therefore, the fish shot is dubious, since there's more vegitation than fish on show.

cylentka
15th of March 2007 (Thu), 11:48
This game is not going be any fun if you have to check each letter, lol. Just give guidance as the game is played and people will get better at it as time goes on. If you fuss too much in the beginning, no one will come back. Just my opinion. :)

I forgot to write as rule that all shots should be under english words, i can tell that Kimono is a japanese word but in English translition you can't find right word, so before we go farther more, should i accept those NON-English words in this game?
I want to keep this game more specific because with non-english words that means alot of unknown shots will be posted and i will ask many times about the meaning, so answer me fast.

Agree, I want to see the subject the latter begin with so clear, what is the point to shoot a shadow or far snapshot or many elements that will hide the real focus subject?

If people here see that this game is not fun anymore then i am sorry to posted it, you can stop playing and better to delete it.

Most people in America know what Koi is, so I didn't really consider that a foreign word. Same with Kawasaki. But up to you about banning foreign words. But that leaves out most of American English because it all came from somewhere else.

I think its a fine game, its just that most of us are not used to strict rules and being double-checked. Again, that is just my opinion, the more rule-oriented people might like it better the way you are doing it now. So just wait and see, I guess.

Here we know Honda, Suzuki for example but maybe many cars or motors brands we don't know here or somewhere else.
I can't go to check what many foreign words meaning and then i will find it is taken from another languages like chinese or japanese or latinos, so i will not post a shot that have an arabic word here and no translit in English such us Misk, Dihn Al-Oud, Bukhour,....etc.

Lens shot is accepted, and motor shot is accepted as well, but we move in preder.

about posting twice i wrote it clearly that anyone can post twice maximum in 1 round, so if you didn't post anything before you have 2 chances in this round, and K is not passed yet, so if you have Kangaroo shot then post it if you didn't passed yet, and let others to post L, you will have many chances anyway, still this game is very long, seems Endless if we move correctly.

You are welcome to help me out.
But this shot is not going to help, i think i wrote that nationalities is not allowed, and that includes flags as well.

I don't know why people can't find something much easier and be creative to shoot, so is it impossible to find known subject to begin with any Letter?

If i accept nationalities or places then if someone post Paris, then that means no one can post paris again unless he changed the name as Eiffel tower which is in Paris, so i don't want this game to go this way, if you see that it is not possible then i have to change some rules then.

Pete

I understand that. Tareq, if you add more rules, can you edit your first post and put them into there please so that all the rules are together in one place. It'll be easier for people to understand that way.

I know things beginning with N should be easy, but I don't seem to have many to hand. Some letters are easy for some people, and some not.

OK, i will add more rules to my first post, but before i do, do you have any comments or opinions?
I would like to know what people to give me thier opinions because maybe if i add more rules then it will be more diffecult than it should be, but at the same time i don't want this game to be so easy to post whatever without rules or conditions, maybe i didn't clarify the rules more, so i will repost rules.

Pete
16th of March 2007 (Fri), 08:14
Umm...

Photos where the main subject should start with that letter of the alphabet.
The name shouldn't be a make or model of something (however well-known)
The name should be English.

It should really be along the lines of a children's alphabet book (A is for Apple, B is for Banana, C is for Cat, etc), so the main subjects should be immediately identifiable as something for that letter.

Does that match with what you were thinking, Tareq?

aha, no problem, just i was looking to give many people the chances rather than 3-5 members are the only posting all the time, i will not wonder if in one round only 3 members are sharing with this option then.

Pete

Quarter? I don't have my camera in my office or I'd snap one. (assuming I could find one, lol)

Oh wait, I'm out for the rest of this round. I'll start shooting things this weekend for the next round, lol.

Oh wait again, Pete's out too. I'll email Crissa, she's surely got a Q photo in her stash.

So if pansy is correct what is it about the "NAME" of the "Nodding Wild Onion" that makes it incorrect???????????

Try not to be so specific about the subjects... This thread should really have subjects along the lines of a child's alphabet chart.

If Tareq gets too strict, his apples will be disqualifed, as they are the NAME of a fruit!

thanks Pete that clears things up:lol:

Pete

Apple will be fine.. It's "Golden Delicious" or "Granny Smith" that might get disqualified. These subjects need to be pretty clear.

The best entrants here should be obvious to a child (and I'm not saying Tareq is a child by any stretch of the imagination) that the main subject equates to the next letter of the alphabet. So "duck" and not "mallard", "motorcycle" not "kawasaki ninja", etc...

That big shiney silver one is the quarter...It has a shallow DOF, and I dont have another shot. BUT you can make out the letters QUARTER at the bottom of the quarter.

Tareq
16th of March 2007 (Fri), 13:12
ok ok, post anything so we will end this round, and from next round i will make it more clear and i will do some changes to the rule.

I forget to say that you should post a subject that consist of one word, so combined names [mostly with birds and flowers names] is disqualified.

I didn't accept that with letter N but then i will get more confusion on this game, so what i will do is to accept anything for this round and from next round before beginning i have to do some changes after little discussion with you people [for opinions and suggestions and so].

hurry up and let's finish this round.

Tareq

Tareq
16th of March 2007 (Fri), 14:27
Are we still doing the 2 posts limit?

Yes, for this round, just no much left but i don't know why people here find it is difficult to shoot anything.
I found my subjects at home mostly or some out of the house but not so far, and i am sure there are many old shots that could begin with one of the letters.

so S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z are left, hurry up, we want to get this game into higher levels.

Anyway, so i was going to discuss few things when we end this round and before starting new round, so let's discuss it now, so then we can start fast next round after getting all opinions and points for next rounds.

cylentka

People rarely take new shots for a competition, they just look through their files and find something that fits. Most people don't take simple alphabet photos. I think that's part of the reason for the long wait between posts.

Oh No, i thought there are many things outside [as well indoors] that all can post things begin with one of alphabet, i said to be as simple so we can see the subject clearly, or not distract with many elements in a photo so we can't see the main subject so clear or pop-up in the photo, but if that means i have to change my rules then i think i have to create another game which will be much easier and rules are less.

don't worry, i am not in hurry, but people here found my rules are little difficult and strict, so that i want this round to be finished so soon then i can do some changes on rules or add new rules to make this game eaiser, but in fact i can wait for days and days if no posts.

I have an umbrella shot...but I used all my turns. And I missed P!

What else starts with U...underwear, unicycle, uneven, unleavened bread, unicorn.

This would be a lot more fun if we could post whatever, minus bad/ inappropriate stuff. I think it would be interesting to see what people would naturally post. It reveals human nature and group think...It could be funnier.

i was going to do another game as for colors but i think i shouldn't post many games and can't control them all and can't think of good suitable rules on each game, so i will keep going with this game only for a while.:)
