Reasons why I won't buy the Pro1:
#1-500: It cost $500 more than a Digital Rebel (in Canada). Personally, I would rather have 6MP on a large sensor than 8MP on a small sensor.
#501: Electronic zoom... yuk! Here is a repair bill waiting to happen. I bet there is a 13 month timer in the camera, then the zoom motor shuts off (just my 'conspiracy theory' side coming out).
#502: Digital viewfinder... if I wanted a digital representation, I will look at the rear screen.
But, I like the position of the MODE dial. That seems to work quite well. The weight of the camera makes it feel more solid that the 300D as well. And you can never beat an all-black camera for looks... "300D designers listening?"
Still, the 300D will be my next upgrade, not the Pro1.

I found the cam for 1399 Can, so far the best price. I like the Pro 1 and am hunting one down, sell the G2 and it makes it less painfull. No cam as of yet is perfect but I think the Pro 1 will fit my needs perfect. I am personally not a big fan of the rebel but thats just me. You are prob right about the small and larger sensor but the photos I have been seeing taken by a Pro 1 are very good. I look forward to my 13 months with the Pro 1.

I agree, the 300D would be my next upgrade too, if I had the money to do so. However, from what I have seen so far, I am impressed with the image quality of the Pro 1. And its not very expensive when you think about it - after you factor in the cost of the lenses you will need if you get a 300D. I can see why people would want a Pro 1.

Cheapest place in Canada for Rebel is Camera Canada (http://cameracanada.com/eNet-cart/Product.asp?pid=8861A002&type=1) especialy if you live out of Ontario. $1320.00.

No, the Pro 1 isn't perfect, though way better than the Gs I have. I could make lists of Pros and cons, but the main thing is I love using it. Hangs perfectly balanced, comes easily to hand, controls are familiar, and it takes DAMNED SHARP PHOTOS!

I agree with John_T the Pro1 isn't perfect but it probably one of the best (if nof not the best) compact digital you can get.
It's very hard to compare compacts with DSLR's. I would love a 10D but don't want the bother of the size and the cost of the lenses. The Pro1 does 95% of what I need. And as said produces damned sharp Photos

Same price in US.

Many others cameras have this and I haven't heard that they only last for 13 months.

Most long zooms have this.

Well I could list 502 reasons why a Pro1 is more convenient for me than a Rebel but why bother? Be happy with your camera and let others be happy with theirs. I just don't see why 300D owners have to rip the Pro1 at every turn? Do they feel threatened by it? True, it's not the best choice for everyone.

Here, here!

That would be my guess.

My guess is Canon is upping the anti in the prosumer range and the "pro" range will move up still further. The next 10D should be a good sized move. That's the way of the world, and I don't think we want it to stand still. I enjoy the advances, even if it yanks at my wallet. I've got a permanent itch there anyway, so the next camera is like a good scratch that gives me a little peace ... for a while...
