I have started putting images up on pbase that I have shot with manual focus lenses. So far I have successfully used an old Zeiss Tessar 50mm f/2,8 and a Pentax 35mm f/3.5. Both very inexpensive lenses with M42 screwmounts. Yesterday I received a long awaited package from Russia with a used Helios 40, a 85mm f/1.5. This is a big hunk of lens, but it works great with an M39 to M42 adapter and an M42 to EOS adapter. There is more about my experience and technique with these lenses at this link:

I welcome others experience or questions. I admit to a love of beautiful old glass and its fun to combine it with digital. Now if I can just mount my Angenieux 25mm f/.95 c-mount! (don't hold your breath).

PS: I put one non-D30 image up just to remind us all what 15mm looks like.

I tried couple of old Russian M42 lens on D30.
Zenitar 16mm f/2.8 fisheye - OK - works like non-fisheye.
Industar 50 f/3.5 just for fun - it is the smallest
lens I ever saw, it costs 7 bucks and it looks very funny
on D30 - http://www.digit-life.com/articles/canoneosd30.
I thought about buying Helios 85mm but I never met M39
bayonet and I am not sure how to plug it in D30.
Where did you get M39-M42 adapter?

M39 is the Leica screwmount also used on Canon and many Russian rangefinders. I bought the M39 to M42 adapter from Alexander Lebedev at http://sentosaphoto.com/
M42/EOS - $19
M39/M42 - $15
The brand is Jolos.
I would be interested in seeing samples from the 16mm.
Thanks, Hap

Many thanx!
I just ordered M39/M42 and lookin for a Helios.
I will put Zenitar 16mm pictures later.
I rare use them because I have Tokina 17mm,
which is also used not often somehow.
Zenitar is a present from my friend.

Is it possible to get M39/EOS adapter somewhere?
