The Wide Histogram and BW-Plus Filters are free. I've used them & you might like them too.
Enjoy.

ReindeerGraphics Wide Histogram
http://www.reindeergraphics.com/free.shtml
A free component of Optipix

Wide Histogram gives an enhanced histogram tool for 16-bit images. The plug-in provides a 512, 768, or 1024 pixel wide histogram, giving between 2 and 4 times the resolution of Photoshop's built-in histogram tool. This is a must if you are interested in the details of the histograms of your 16-bit images. We provide 8 modes for the histogram, including RGB, Red, Green, Blue, Colors, Hue, Saturation, and Luminance.

You may download the Macintosh (324 KB stuffit file) or Windows (232 KB zip file) version of the plug-in, along with a PDF file that explains its principles of operation, installation and use. The plug-in can be used with Adobe Photoshop 5.5, 6, 7, or CS for both 8 bit per channel and 16 bit per channel RGB and greyscale images, and with many other Photoshop-compatible programs for 8 bit per channel images.

BW-Plus Filter (Fotomatic Series)

Version : 1.1

A single Photoshop-compatible plug-in filter for quickly turning your colour images into greyscale, but with the added option of using a coloured optical lens filter as you would in traditional photography. The different colours will change the tonal range during the greyscale conversion. There are 6 preset effects to choose from using R,G,B and C,M,Y filters.
