I'm using Photoshop 7. Is there a new version without getting the whole suite? Just curious because I get fantastic educator discounts through our college.

I taught PSCS on Mac's without owning either. As long as I knew I could get the discount, I waited to upgrade. Then I realized that I just didn't need it & still use PS7 with RAW.
I'd suggest that you buy glass instead & wait 'till just before you leave academia? ;)

You can upgrade PS 7 to PSCS2 for about $150 (this is without the academic discount). From what I've seen, academic discount isn't much for upgrades but that's still better than none, I suppose.

Adobe will be announcing CS3 on 3/27. If you're going to upgrade anyway, you might want to wait and get the newest version when it comes out later this Spring.

I'm in an interesting situation. I get an academic discount, plus partial reimbursement from the college. And the rest I write off on my schedule C. But I do believe I'll wait until the new release comes out.

I have used CS3 and dont see the need to wait, unless your doing heavy Photoshopping. If you just want it to correct photos then CS2 is more than enough, save the extra money for glass.

The RAW conversion capabilities are far superior in CS3 as well as more non-destructive editing in PS, more than enough to justify the wait. And, what makes you think the upgrade to CS3 will be more money than the upgrade to CS2? Besides, the OP is getting it close to free with the academic upgrade and partial reimbursement.

I'm going to get CS3. I think it'll be worth upgrading to.

I convert RAW files with CaptureOne Pro, so I have no interest in the RAW capabilities of CS3. But if he can get it for near free then by all means go with it.
