All Right! I am beginning to get the hang of PP with LightRoom. No plugins, no selection tools, no LAB color, no cloning (there is trivial tool but it is very close to useless), etc. But if you start off with good images that just need a little zip or crop or straighten or full frame color/dynamic range tweaks, it is great ... and these were all jpegs ... I'm still a bit wary of RAW but I'll get there.
Wynonna was a grand show. The male backup singer is a shining light. I was allowed two songs, from the edges of the stage and the lightboard, nothing from up front or the middle. Her whole show was in saturated color! I tried something different for the collage (and remembered to get it into the gallery) and a different gallery template (which I don't like as well.)
So, for your visual amusement, some images from gallery: http://www.dwightmccann.com/Images/Wynonna03092007/content/index.html where you can see a bunch more.
#1 Collage, the only thing done in PhotoImpact.

OK, Listen Up! The gallery link is at the top!
Edit: I will be in Cancun, Mexico, from the 13th through 20th so I won't be lurking here!

I found the gallery link! :D Nice work. You weren't kidding about the show being saturated in color, noticed a couple pushing the boundaries of the red channel. I don't see that too often in your shots. They still look good.
Have fun in Cancun!

Thanks, Basil ... I was pretty surprised, and pleased, when I saw them.

Very interesting series of photos... I really like the variety...
Those lights resemble the venue I frequent... Your precision is clearly evident...you have the angles of the show pretty well covered with this set.
I'm saddened to see her let herself go a bit onto the heavy side. It's so difficult to turn around from what seems like a one way metabolic trip...
Enjoy Cancun, the east coast will be a different change of pace. You'll probably run into a lot more north easterners...
I'll post "Kansas" soon...maybe you'll be able to catch a glimpse before you head out...

i think wynnona would sue you if she saw #2...damn she looks like she consumed ashley.
3, 5, and esp 7 are really great, i love the saturated colors in the 7th. the fisheye shot is cool too.

If she'd let me shoot from where I wanted and let me shoot until I was done it wouldn't have been a problem ... at least I slid her cutout off the edge in the collage!:lol::lol:

"A little hefty"? Just like the colors being a "little saturated"...
I like #7 and 8.
Seems like exposure was all over the place... The left one in the collage is overexposed, #5 and 6 are underexposed... Didn't bracket?

I see the overexposure in the collage pic, but 5 and 6 seem ok... Dark clothes and dark bg without smoke is a hard combination.

Yeah. I don't think it's much, but I would like the face a *bit* brighter in 5 and 6.
It's more that, when browsing the gallery, brightness varied quite a bit, so these seemed dark in comparison...

Absolutely, I always bracket, but I didn't selectively level them or other PP ... one of the issues is that the LDs frequently put a lot of light on the headliner and dull down everything else ... even when they light up the backup singers or musician for a solo the light is dim by comparison. In the cutout of the collage (which is the complaint?) there are blacks to whites but the highlighted part of her face has detail but it is perhaps a bit bright ... I didn't want to lose everything in the dark pants and perhaps overdid it.

Hard combination is no excuse! Maybe I am rushing because I leave for Cancun in the morning.

Yes, I see what you mean. I think I was just looking for different things in the different images. Some I wanted the darker more saturated look to shine through and in others I want the shadow detail to show. With only two songs to shoot, restricted shooting position and ever changing lights I guess I felt hampered and it stayed with me is PP.
I am also doing this new workflow that is very different and trying to post more images per concert ... not sure if more pictures is a good thing or not, but fans always ask, "You got any more?" as they never seem to see enough.
Anyway, everyone should continue to criticize ... it is very easy to get lazy after a hundred world class concerts, sigh.

Great stuff, Dwight.
I'm having trouble with the purple fringe in front of her chin in #7. I don't know if it's CA or something else, but it's pretty distracting.
Anybody know what causes that, besides Dwight's cheap consumer-grade lenses? ;)

Ah, yes, Curtis, it is trompel'oeil ... the shadow of the microphone ... and where it is on her red lips with the purple light it makes her lip disappear completely ... no fringing on the Canon 300mm f/2.8L IS at that distance! Saw it and thought it was a very interesting effect.

Just post the cream of the crop. You know what they say "Always leave 'em wanting more!" ;)

If I could hold them for ransom that's just what I would do but at it stands I can't sell 'em 'cause I don't have model releases.
