So this morning as I reset a few clocks in the house, I decided to also change the clocks in the S2 and S3...even though all that seems to be good for is the I.D. of any particular picture.
To my total amazement, my S3 had changed, automatically! I have only had it eight (8) months, so I guess maybe the Firmware installed in it had been alerted to the 'change' in U.S. DST ???
Moving right along, I grabbed my Bride's S2. Lo and Behold! It ALSO had changed, automatically to the 'new' correct time. She has had her's four months longer than I have had mine, so in May 2006 do you think HER firmware was set?
Maybe the camera gets 'instructions' from the computer, via the USB cable [which we always use] ??
Definitely the 'interesting' point for today.....

My S2 forced me to set the time when I turned it on this AM. It is pretty old.

I have an S3 purchased in May 2006. I just checked, and it did not change time.

I'd never 'torch it off again'... but I wonder if the Computer to Camera USB cabling might be doing something that allows the camera to do this, gets info from the computer... Since some of us are Cable People and some are Card Reader People, and some DST'd and some didn't...?
Just a very wild guess ..... ???

My S3 had not changed. I use a reader all the time, but had connected the camera directly earlier this evening to put something on the card. I just changed it manually.

Well there are some smarter people in The Arid Zone... If *I* were in charge, we'd all be on GMT / Zulu / UTC and be done with it...
But since I am not... I can't figure out why some of these 'dern' cameras changed and some did not...

I had tp change mine manually. Oh the agony of it all. It must have taken me a full ten seconds to do it. I'm still resting up from it! ;)

This "USA" DST time change bill was passed in 2005 so they've had some time to build it into the camera's. Just a thought.

Yeah... I'll bet you had to go on a Eatting Binge to get your strength back, Just Shootin' !!!
I'll have to admit to being very curious from time to time..... Maybe too much time to ask questions... I guess there will be no definitive answer to this one... so you just keep doing those push-ups for your 'menu' digit .... The Loons will be having you work up a sweat again, before your golf tournament is over !

The aggravating thing is that my D60, 20D and A620 all change one way; the 5D changes in a completely different way. AAARGH!

Yeah, Jon... I think it's about time to declare a Time Loon 'Season' ...

Hmm, I just checked my S3 and it's changed. But the time zone is set to London England and UK clocks don't go forward for another two weeks.

Hmmm, I just checked my S3 and it's changed. But it isn't THAT clever. I have set the timezone to London England, where daylight saving isn't due until March 25th.

Ok, I just had to check. I thought I had set all the clocks in the house, but I did forget about my camera (and stereo).
Lowe and Behold, it was correct. I couldnt believe it! But wait. The Daylight savings time feature was not selected. Yet it still was correct. Hmmmm... weird.
I suspect that it was actually an hour off ALL WINTER and it now correct again. When I selected DST, it went an hour ahead. Crazy little bugger. I set the time last July, and its been wrong all winter long.
Oh Well....

I think its the Canon fairy. When you were sleeping it snuck into your home and set your camera clocks. I would check the memory card for any mysterious photos.
