damn, i haven't seen these guys since i was in high school, and that was over 20 years ago...since i'd not been to any show in about 4 weeks (my friday night holly golightly plans were nixed after i drove down to boston only to see "SOLD OUT"...), i decided to head back into the city last night for the punk rock onslaught of 3 oldies (76% Uncertain, the Freeze, and Gang Green). this set will just focus on The Freeze, best known for having the title track of the ultra-essential punk rock/hardcore comp lp _This is Boston, Not LA_ and also the awesome "I Hate Tourists" single.
anyway, this was a fun, challenging set to shoot. the light wasn't too bad, but it was primarily backlighting, which made the exposure tricky, but at least it was constant. the other challenge was the flailing moshers; i found out the hard way to not spend too much time w/ my eye in the viewfinder, and took at least two hard shots to the chest and back from random pit members. since i knew it was a punk gig, i also brought my 420EX, and it's clear that i still need some work on this...i think i need to not have so much lag (ie, over 0.5 second is too much for highly energetic scenes). enough blabber, on to the evening:
