I was shooting at a spring thaw waterfall today and I'm looking for C&C on the PP of all this white:confused:
White snow, ice and water.
My concern is trying to work the contrast too much to deliniate all this white.
This should look a good shot, but I'm not totally pleased with it.
Any help appreciated!! Thanks, Jim

When shooting in snow, lighting is EVERYTHING. If you have too little light the snow will look grey. Too much light and the snow will be bleached out. Make sure to set your white balance accurately for this type of shot. If shooting snow with strong direct light use a polarizing filter to cut down on the glare without loosing texture of the snow.

I like the photo. For me, i would have moved back a little so that the water spray wasnt dominating the majority of the frame.

I altered your levels in PSCS2 using Image->Adjustments->Levels. This gives it a more natural appearance for me, and it certainly makes better use of the dynamic range of the 8-bit RGB format.

Looks good to me, seems that the Ice is white and the running water is off white. But the melt is causing that, seems like an accurate scene to me

Hey thanks all!!!
tazrebel, I will reshoot this with a CPL, see what the difference is.
Robert_Lay, nice touch with the levels, looks a little more white in the top left corner than I achieved. I'll take another run through PS7 and see if I can improve. But I want to keep the texture.
Calicokat, Thanks :-) I do like this picture too, and it does give an acurate look of the area. The falls are in the Rideau River at Hogsback. This is where our canal system splits off to run through downtown and into the Ottawa River. This is just one part, there is 1 larger water flow and 2 smaller falls in the area. Nice place to hang out for a while.

Appreciate the comments, all. Thanks again!
