Nice series. If you could please excuse my ignorance, what kind of car is in #5?

It's a Lancia Stratos. (Got a Ferrari engine) Can't tell from here whether it's a kit or genuine though. One of my all time favourite rally cars.

No, this one is genuine. Bought and driven by the owner of a drinks company and what a genius piece of marketing (at least to fans of 70's rally cars:D )

A nice selection of shots, I really like the first one and the last one with the flash in it.

He also arrived at the rally in his road spec Stratos
Cheers

Ian, did you get a shot of his road car? He must be a huge Stratos fan, theyre not the most competitive or reliable cars are they!
Nick.

The Stratos, given the right driver, should **blitz** most events - when it was current it won the world championship multiple times in succession, proving good on all surfaces - tarmac, gravel, mud, snow
Unfortunatly most of the drivers competing in this level of rallying, don't have quite the level of talent / bravery / budget to bring out the best of them.
Steve Perez is the driver. The man who looks after his cars was in our workshops today collecting a replacement windscreen for the car - we're Lancia specialists catering for Stratoses and fulvias (and older)
One problem is that there isn't much parts availabliltiy for the Stratos, so its a question of research and development. When something breaks, find out why, and then get it remade (at vast expense) after re-engineering what went wrong. Naturally this is so much easier if the cars are as common as an Escort - costs come down and the ability to develop new and uprated products is so much greater.
The genius of marketing is that the VK livery on this Stratos is a rip-off of the famous Alitalia livery these cars are best remembered in.

Hi,
Grabbed some shots of Steves WRC Focus at the Malcolm Wilson rally in Cumbria two weeks ago. Apologies for the quality - first time really trying to shoot a rally with my 350D - was using a borrowed 90-300mm Canon.
(lets hope this linking works)

Some fantastic looking shots here guys! Hey photonick are you pre-focusing for your shots or just auto-focusing and firing away? I've got a 70-200 F/4L on the way this week, just in time for a rally coming up in about 3 weeks. Super excited, can't wait to see how she performs. I had a cheapo (like $75 US cheap) Sigma 70-300 lens that performed okay when pre-focused, but had a hard locking on and tracking cars when set to autofocus, at least on my 10D. Once again, great pics and happy rallying.

South_paw, you should have no problem at all using the a1 servo focus, just try and keep it on the same point of the car and track it for a few seconds before shooting. I have never needed to pre-focus since having the D-SLR.
Oh and thanks for the comments.
