Looks like (but I may be wrong) a hardware problem. It's worth tossing a new firmware load in (if the A70 is still 1.0.0), but I seriously doubt that will fix the problem.

If it's under warranty, send it for repair. Package it well, supply a sample image printout along with documentation of warranty.

Good luck.

This is what I have been getting with my Canon...very similar to yours. I to have an A70 and like you said it does it only every once in a while. Do you get lines in you LCD too???? My LCD looks like your picture how do I check the firmware on the camera???

The Firmware update only enable the Poweshot A70 install PictBridge feature in it, there's no other fix on the other problems on A70! The A70 warranty is over and I doubt there's no way the Canon can service that error ..unless change the whole microprocessing (DigiC) board..or load the original 1.0.0.0 Firmware into A70. I emailed and called the Canon service but they seems doesn't respond to me! Hopefully Canon can come out with the solution on the camera!
