using a canon 30D. i always, or usually, shoot a RAW and a small JPEG. no problems until recently, i've noticed purples showing up in the RAW files. most noticeable in the blues.
yesterday i shot a flag against the blue sky. the RAW is a disturbing purple. the JPEG looks fine. The RAW is correctable altho it was difficult to get it like the JPEG.
any clues, anyone?
The DPP calls for 512 mb min. of memory, i only have 256. only thing i can think of is that as i've accumulated files it can't process all the info. any feedback appreciated.

Could be that you have set up some custome setting in the camera or made some changes in the camera. I would do a camera function reset or clear to get it back to factory settings and run your test again.
good luck

Is the JPEG being processed with a particular Picture Style in camera while the RAW is processed via a different Picture Style on the PC?
And a side note-RAW and 256MB of RAM = BAD!!!;) Upgrade the RAM or perhaps the entire PC.

I think the Twilight picture style in DPP will turn Blues into a Purple... might check that's not being selected somehow by default.

thanx, everyone. yes, i need to check the functions/settings. i hope that's the issue.
and i'm aware i'm running on sketchy memory, but i've had no problems till recently. far as i know everything is on default and i only shoot in manual.
i do go around in and play with the RAWs in DPP maybe i switched something there? i only have a basic comprehension of the program.

Could be edge fringe. it is cmmon on high contrast items like an edge against the sky, or the reflection of of something Chrome. Normally the camera takes care it automatically when it does the raw conversion to jpeg. But if you are looking at the raw, it is there, and you have to manually get it out. There is a tab on the adobe camera raw screen called "Lens", on that tab you'll find two sliders to eliminate the edge fringe.

thanx again everyone. still trying to troubleshoot this. it's not really purple, more like magenta.
it looks a little like edge fringe, and it is certainly more noticeable at the edges, but the entire sky has a magenta cast. the other day i took a picture of a girl in blue jeans in very subdued light. jpeg fine, RAW, purple jeans.
to further my confusion the RAW looks fine in the Zoom Browser. also, earlier files i've shot were fine. my only guess left is the memory issue altho the program seems to function fine and i can manually correct the color.

This makes me think you have a color management issue. Post a screenshot of your DPP color settings.

Check your RAW defaults; make sure you didn't somehow 'calibrate' by accident and save that. (Reset them)
You might be right about memory; make sure you hard disks are not approaching full.

i think i've resolved the problem. thanx for all the help. what it was, i think, is the picture style was standard, but the color tone was set to 4 instead of the default zero. the reason for that was i was trying to shoot a yellow t-shirt with my strobes and the yellow just would not record so i started goofing around with the settings. in the sunlight the yellow recorded fine.
damn, i was just beginning to understand the subtly of films, which are at the zenith of their development, and along comes digital. whole new learning curve.
again, thanx everyone. as soon as i figure your forum out, and how to post pictures, i'll contribute some.
really, was a great help which i'm obviously in need of.
