Your technique is really working against your composition here. Based on the composition, the kitty is ostensibly the subject of this shot. HOWEVER, you have such a shallow depth of focus, that only the area around the eyes are in focus. To make matters even worse, it looks as though you missed the focus on the foreground (kitty's nose). So based on technique - the depth of focus you chose - kitty is not the subject, but rather kitty's eyes are the subject. In that case, you have vast acres of the shot that do not contribute.
I am not saying one subject is better than the other. No, that is for you to decide. What I am saying is that once you decide on a subject, use a technique that presents the subject of choice. If you want a shot of kitty, practice using enough focal depth to include the entire subject, front to back. If kitty's eyes are the subject, crop away about 75% of the wasted space and show that.
Whichever it is, technique and composition must work together. If not, you end up with an unclear mish-mash. ("Unclear" both in terms of focus and of focus - if you get what I mean.)

*Mike*'s crop in your OTHER THREAD (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=288806)is exactly the direction I would have taken the shot. Leaves a little room for kitty to gaze into.
