I sent this email to JandK Group. A lighting seller on Ebay. They have alot nice packages:

Dear jandkgroup,

I recently got into the world of digital photography with the purchase of my new Canon Digital Rebel. I'm looking to get a light kit for my home to do some fashion photograpy and to photograph some women friends. Just as a hobby mainly. Do you recommend a JTL kit? I'm looking to spend around $500-600. Do you have any other recommendations for what I'm trying to do? Thank you, Peter :)

This is was their reply and recommendations:

Peter,

Â* Thanks for your message. Since you have an excellent camera that has the ability to hook up to strobes, I highly recommend that you go with strobes instead of digital lighting. Strobes offer the very best of lighting when it comes to photography. Most of them are daylight balanced, and do not make the model sweat under the heat that the continuous lighting. If you would be kind enough to provide me with some further information, we’d be happy to recommend a strobe set that would suit your needs. I need to know the following:

This is my respones to their questions:
1)Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* Approximately what is the size of area do you plan on shooting in? spare bedroom, approx 15x15 ft

2)Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* Does that room have exposure to sunlight (AKA..lots of sunlight coming into the room)- No, I'll be shooting at nigth when I get home from work.

3)Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* What do feel will be the maximum number of people that you will be taking pictures of at one time? Mostly single portraits ie one person at a time.

4)Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* Do you have any particular background materials in mind for your photos? (AKA..any background muslins, chromakeys, stands that you may need?) Yes, I hope to be shooting like fashion shoots.

Please get back to us with that information, and I’m sure we can recommend a strobe kit to suit your needs. I will include a like to our strobe kit section in our eBay store below so that you can get an idea what you will be looking at.

So do you guys agree with his recommendations? Strobe does sound like a good deal because I'll be in condo and would not like constant heat from a continous lighting.

I know little about lighting, which I know is vital for good photographs. I've never purchased semi-professional lights like these for myself.

BTW- Are their prices good?
Is the Britek kit worth the extra $200? :D:)

Check out Alien Bees and White Lightning. Both are made by the same company and cannot be beat for quality and reliabilty not to mention their fine customer service. No, I don't work for them but their lights have made me a lot of money and are among the most reliable equipment that I have ever purchased.
