Wanted to get some constructive criticism on these as this is an area of photography i'm really interested in. Here's a few:

First the wish list... I wouldn't touch anything slower than a f2.8 lens for performing arts, period...
RE: the pics...number them so we can address them specifically...
The drummer is a pretty good low light shot...
While the bass player in the last pic is pretty good too, but the microphone in the middle is way too prominent...I'd shoot more form the side or capture him when he steps off to the side...
I wouldn't stop at improving on # 1 and 2 type of shots...there is a lot of room for creativity...right now one, is slightly interesting, but mostly not... while two, looks very awkward and mostly uncomfortable... Who needs more stress trying to visually straighten the twisted dude? I certainly don't...
Keep posting your pics here...and continue being creative... you'll eventually find your sweet spots...

read the faq and the tips for interacting and getting comments. it does not take that much time to read and well worth the time, especially if you are serious about concert photography.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think the biggest problem i have is that i can't look at my own photos as though they're someone elses. It makes it hard for me to work out whether i like them or not!
All the shots above were taken with the 50mm 1.8, and the first one was about a second exposure with second curtain flash from a 580ex.
Oh and about the wishlist, the 50mm 1.4 and 100mm f2 i thought would cover me for small and medium sized gigs, which is all i will be shooting for the mean time. I think i'll have to stick to primes for low light stuff, as the 2.8 zooms are a bit out of my reach for a while!

it would also help to keep Exif.
you've got a good start. i would try and stay away from the flash. crank that ISO all the way up and fire away.

That probably means you don't like them as well. There are photographs that I like and would consider better than mine, but overall I am very happy with how my photographs stand along others. I'm very confident they are pro quality.
