Anybody here use Angle Finder C viewfinder attachment? (Canon part# 2882A002AA)

It looks like it'd be good for ground-level shooting, and macros, but at $270US it's kinda steep.

Just wondering if anyone's using it, what your experience has been.

Also, anywhere to buy it cheaper?

(Hopefully that will display an image of it from Canon's web pages.)

You can find them for about $170.00...

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=183200&is=REG

I got one.. and very rarely use it... For macro work though it is a big help.

I also found out AFTER I got the pricey "C" that you can get a $20.00 - $35.00 used pentax or even the older Canon model...

...it won't slide onto the rails out of the box,. but optically it does the same job.. so people have had good luck just re-bending the little rails on the angle finder to fit the rails on the 10D view finder... saves you about $150.00...

Yes, I use one mainly for portraits and 'product type' shots of stationary cars, where I use manual focus. With the 2.5x magnification you can really nail the focus.

I don't do macro work, but based on my experience with it I would say it is ideal. Only you can judge if it is worth it. It is to me even though it only gets used a dozen times a year.

I have one, and I use it quite often. Low level shots are a special challenge for me because my knees don't always cooperate when kneeling, crouching, or getting up off the ground.  Fortunately, I can still bend in the middle (a little), so the Angle Finder C is a great aid for getting 'down low'. Also, it has the ability to magnify the viewfinder image, so that can be helpful, especially for macro shots (although I do very little of that).

Of all the 'overpriced' Canon accessories I've bought recently, this was the easiest to justify, and the most useful.

(Eyepiece extenders? Now that's another matter completely. :x :x )

Yep, I have one and use it quite a bit. I think I also paid around $170.00 for it.

Do you know the model numbers of the Pentax and older Canon models? I can't seem to find them...

The magnification for focusing is very useful, esp. with macro.

As pointed out, nice for low angle work. Not the most often used bit of kit, but nice to have when it is needed.

Are there cheaper alternatives that also have the magnification and will fit (at least through minor modification) on a 10d?

I found the Angle Finder C is useful for three reasons.

1 - Save my neck -- When taking ground level shots the angle finder C is absolutely wonderful when I am in the prone position taking pictures.

2. Save my back and knees -- When taking pictures of short models it comes in handy to give me what seems like 6 extra inches of reach before I have to either bend my back too far or get on my knees.

3. Substitutes for the good focusing screen the 10D should have been given. As stated above it makes focusing easier then with the lousy focusing screen.

Don't use it a lot, but when I do I am very glad I have it.

Just my experience,

Hello:

We just got ours two weeks ago (using D60) to solve some very critical focus issues we could not address with the standard viewfinder. it's invaluable for certain applications.

Got ours from B+H in NY. Don't have our paperwork in front of me, but I think we paid in the neighborhood of $160-$170 US. Bigger issue is availability. B+H had one. Because of low volume, many retailers don't stock'em, and speak of 2 to 3 week delivery times.

I believe you'll discover that the Canadian model only works on ducks and deer.
