I am building my portfolio to take on some high school senior portraits. This is from my most recent shoot.

And this one was more for fun. But why can't portraits be fun?

One more of her in the last one... sitting right on the edge of the bench... or maybe even standing closer to you. That would have made it perfect in my opinion. These are nice... she's adorable.

I like them all, but definately agree with forkball for the 3rd pic.
I also think maybe the colour ones could do with a bit more warmth, you could try warming them in photoshop a bit. It just kinda feels like the skin tones are a bit white.

The idea of posting images here is so the creator can get some constructive comments on his or her images from others who have already been down the same path. I seldom use this pose for a couple of reasons. One, when the subject leans back like this young lady did, her arm muscles tense up and they bulge out making her upper arms look large. This is OK on body builders but not on pretty petite gals. Two, either she has a rather large tummy, or her blouse has billowed out making her tummy look large.
If you cross the front foot over the rear the viewer will not be able to see the bottom of her shoes.

I really like the second one, I think it's the best of the three.

In order of liking-
#2
#1
#3
I am looking at from the "high school senior portraits" perspective. I think #2 and #1 fit that more than #3 - but they are all nice.

I am still not sure why my color reproduction differs so much when going from photoshop to posting online. I am editing and saving in the rgb color space.

I like all of them, but #2 by far takes the prize!
Nice exposure on all!

Adobe RGB or sRGB? You should notice very little, if any, difference from what you see in photoshop to what you see online if you use sRGB.
as for the pictures, #2 is definitely my favorite as well. the composite image is a great idea to see what kind of response you get from high school kids (I think many would love it).

She looks a little stiff in the first one. Tell her to bend her arms a bit and relax (while trying not to sound like a perv). Looks like she's about to try and lift herself up and do some calistenics...

That was my problem. I have been using the beta version of CS3 camera raw. It defaults its colorspace to Adobe 1998. Changed it to SRGB, that fixed it.

This first pose was the beginning of the photo shoot. I am suprised they came out this good. I agree she is a bit tense, and yes I did feel a bit pervy telling her to relax. At one point I asked her to stick her butt out more.. maybe I should have re-phrased that one!

I really like
#2
I also agree about the tenseness in her arm in #1, she seems like she has enormous triceps.
and I really also like the last two you posted.

On your new images, lets call them #4 and #5, I like #5 the best - but #4 is very close.
Though, I think there could be a bit more light on her face in both shots.

on the 2nd set I thnk they would look great a touch warmer. You have this great late afternoon/sunset light in the background and shes in open shade with flash. That makes her look more pasty white than she probably really is.

Good point I should have put a gel on my flash, I had one there too, just didn't think to use it.

The original few: the color ones need their levels adjusted. They are low in contrast/saturation/etc. The 2nd 2 pictures: your waterbackground is very rotated even though she looks like she "might" be standing straight. Even it is a little low in contrast/saturation.

I really like all of the pics you posted and won't rehash what everyone has pointed out about posing etc. I would like to make one comment though, I really like the last pic you posted, classic senior, but I think she would have looked better barefoot. The dirty soles of her shoes kind of distract from the picture. P;us the skin of her feet owul have blended in with the rest of her skin.
Just my $.02

I tried straightening up the last two. Thanks for noticing that.
I also agree about the barefeet vs. soles of her shoes. I appreciate your input.

I agree with Carpe_diem... I would prefer #1 & #5 barefoot. The dirty sole shoes distract me. I love #5.

I really like the last one you posted.
In the first group, in the third picture.... I don't know if you noticed or not, but it looks like you cut out a chunk of her leg in the left most pose. ;)

I have to chime in with #2 being my favorite as well.
Though, I have found shots like #3 to be creepy... nothing against your work but seeing someone three or so times in one shot is just weird.
I also have to say that your second attempt at #1 is a lot better than the original. The skin tones aren't as cold and white. Great job on #2 and #1b.
*edit*
I just noticed two more photos. I think if you clean up the last one (lying on the grass) to fix her shirt over her hip showing, you would have a close runner-up for #2. Good work.

The multiple pose one is very interesting...but for some reason just bugs me. I think it might be worth a try to have the model wear a different outfit in each pose? Just an idea. The rest are great...
