View Full Version : Color shift with Canon 2x ?

I recently purchased a Canon EF 1.4 II extender. I have owned the EF 2x I for years. After I discovered I could not combine the two extenders, I traded my 2x I toward a 2x II.

Naturally I had to do some measurebating.

I found the sharpness of both extenders excellent on my 70-200 2.8L (non IS) @ 200mm. I was especially pleased with the 2x because I had lower expectations for it than the 1.4x.

With extenders combined, sharpness was good enough that I'm glad I upgraded to the newer 2x.

However I noticed a yellowish cast on the 2x and 2x + 1.4x photos. I had not noticed this with my old 2x (although never measurebated)

I shot with my EOS 1v so the problem could be with my photo lab.

Before I go to them with this question, I hoped that some of you have noticed (or not) a color change with the EF 2x II

I have'nt noticed a color shift with the 2x but I don't use it that often. This was shot with the 100-400 IS and 2xII:

This guy stacked a 1.4 and a 2x onto a 600mm....

From 250 feet, at 1.4 * 2 * 600 * 1.3 = 2184mm
Granted, it's a small image, but I don't see color shift.

There was a thread not too long ago about something similar. Search for "halation"
