A couple snapshots of my '02 WRX that I took this morning...

Love the front/rear lips. Lower it, go wingless, and that car will be gorgeous! Super clean. I'm in the market for one right now and have yet to find a clean one with under 65k miles :(

Thanks... it's now lowered with different wheels and headlights... haven't gone wingless yet... still wanting to pick up an STi spoiler...

Took me a few hours the other night to go through this thread. Awesome photos and some amazing rides you guys got. I saw a few I haven't seen in ages, like an old English Ford Escort coupe, Some old Triumph TR7s, old Datsuns.
Here are two of mine. The Civic HB was mine from around 90 - 98 when the clutch gave out around 304kms. That weekend I bought a Mazda 626 ES Cronos as a replacement and I replaced that in 2006 or 7 with the A4 Quattro below. Awesome car! Just took off the 19"s and put back on my 16" snows. I also had the chip tweaked to just over 200HP.

Not to doubt your story, I would love to do a ride like that, just haven't had the time, and wife won't ride that far on the bike, she has a eck problem which will give migraines.

VERY Nice! Is it fully restored?

Well, I do some work on it each year (modification and restauration) but I didn't make a frame off with it at the begining. The body is perfect for me (airdam, BRE rear spoiler, small racing mirror and 0 offset 16x8 and 240z fiberglass bumpers (because the 280z bumpers are sooooo big). The Z sit on coilover. Finally, he is now Turbo (NA motorset with a Turbo kit that I made and not the 280zxt engine) and megasquirted and run fine with a conservative 10psi (300ishhh hp and 300lbs of torq maybe? ). He now need brake upgrade (4 piston front and rear disk), a 6 point roll bar (because it's a unibody are too much flexible to my taste) and finally a CLSD. For the restauration part pf the job, you know with old cars, it's always a little bit of everything each month (bushing, new hoses, interior trim....) But man, I love this car! It's a Steering + seats + a motor and a stiff ride, a real sport car!

Thanks for the comment ;)

Agreed, that, and quite a few other lowered vehicles here are looking pretty tight.

OT I just saw the TV commercial for the brand new GTI and it's looking awesome! The new Scirroco is also looking pretty sweet, but according to the vid I saw on Top Gear, it seems a bit underpowered.

not quite, because with 17's i'd still need to stretch them to fit under the fenders.

remember, the car is on air ride, so when its air'd out completely it sits on the tire. if i had 17's i'd still need the fender to clear the tread ;)

and i didn't pay retail for the wheels ;)

not familiar with these 2 terms "bobbed and cafe'd"

I wasn't sure either, but a little research dug up this:

>>Intentionally making a motorcycle handle or perform worse, in the name of 'art' is lost on me. Bobbers were an ultimate expression of minimalist design..... I think choppers started out as a way to correct some of the factory design flaws that were brought to light with that activity; or a way to reduce weight even further.<<

You have that reversed a bit... Choppers were the expression of "art" to an extent, without regard to handling.

Bobbers on the other hand, were taking big fat dressers, touring bikes, and stripping them to make them more functional for the performance rider. Remember, there were very few bikes like that. Bobbers were both the sport bikes and dirt bikes (believe it or not) of the mid-twentieth century. They were done for road performance on the more open U.S. roadways and for whatever off roading these guys would do; like scrambles, flat track, and hill climbs. Until the British performance singles and twins of the 50s there wasn't much out there.

There is nothing that requires a bobber to have a hard tail. The bobber is an American phenomena from the days of the big heavy V-twins most exclusive to the U.S. Fact is cafe bikes are a kind of bobber thought process that developed in Europe where lighter bikes were more common and roadracing was much more popular. So there was a more racing bent to them. The American Bobber and the European Cafe Racer are really "twin brothers of different mothers" (to borrow an album title from Dan Fogelberg and Tim Weisberg).

At one point my SR500 was a bit of a bobber and I'd put both its dirt road and paved road handling up as pretty good for a 1978 street bike, remember there were no actual sportbikes, the closest was the RD series Yamahas. The SRs weren't fast, but they could corner pretty decently. It's all in what one does with the build.
When doing bobbers, one does not rake the snot out of them or chop up and lengthen everything in sight. They're pretty much standard frame bikes done up like an old flat tracker or road racer before rear suspension was added. They're made to handle decently and most do handle better than the original bike they evolved from unless, as in the case of some full suspended British and Japanese twins, the rear suspension is eliminated for a hard tail.

As used classic/custom bikes become more cheaply available I think you may start seeing more Japanese classic/custom designs become bob jobs. I've already seen a few. Also there are the old 650 twins that are appearing. I'd not bet against some of the other twins and fours from the seventies to come forth in both bobbed and cafe design for those who want to play on the cheap. Two of my friends have already done that. One owns a variety of bikes including a ZX14 and a DRz400SM, he built a hard tail XS650 bobber. The other has an FJR1300 and a DRz400S, he just built a 1974ish CB750 cafe without a fairing. My brother has built a bobbed CL305 as a hard tail street tracker (hit Cycle World's article on bikes under $1000 a few years back), and I am doing a cut down 60s style SR500 street tracker with suspension. Its fun on a budget.

Poe: love the Advans! from other RSX's I've seen, I think the rims fit perfectly. It's such a clean wheel too! I guess it doesn't hurt that I'm a sucker for gold wheels on a white or black car.
