Problem with S2 Turning on

On Monday I used the S2 and everything was ok. I had just put in newly charged batteries. Yesterday (Tuesday) I took the camera to a basketball game and when I went to turn it on, it only went on about half way and then stopped. Both the viewfinder and the LCD were black. I turned the camera off and tried to slide the on/off thingy to the play side to review my photos but I couldnt do that either. Any suggestions?

Did the lens retract when you turned the camera off?

When you say "tried to slide the on/off thingy to the play side to review my photos but I couldnt do that either" do you mean that the switch wouldn't slide, or that after you slid it over you didn't get Review?

The lens didnt retract after it failed but after hitting the off button a few times it finally retracted.

For the other question, I was able to slide the toggle but when it was put on the play side to review the photos the lcd was still black.
