I just got my first filter today. I haven't put in on the lens, yet, but I can see there's some stuff on it. What should I use to clean it before I put it on the lens? And for that matter, what (if anything) should I use to clean my lenses? I'm paranoid about them getting scratched. I'm guessing sandpaper and rubbing alcohol would be bad?

Thanks,
Greg

Hmmm.... yes, probably sandpaper wouldn't be the optimal solution....

You can buy a lens cleaning kit for about $ 5 in any photography store. It comes with a bottle of lens cleaning fluid and tissue-like paper for cleaning your lenses. Put a drop of the liquid on a piece of the paper, let it damp off a bit (you don't want to soak your lens in the liquid), and gently clean the lens with it.

Keep your lenses as clean as possible and don't clean them unless absolutely necessary.

Right. I don't think I want to clean the lens. I want to clean the lens filter. Hopefully I can keep the lens clean.

You've got the right idea.
