Imo it would be better if you crop out the plantlife? on the bottom.
the sun is dead center and that is kind of bad imo
Sorry it took so long to get some Critque.

the jetstreams are out of place. honestly, the photo doesn't grab me anywhere.

I like this photo. I think the plants at the bottom lend to the 'cold, dead, winter' feel of the ice and crisp, blue sky.
The shadows coming from the clouds are very nice indeed.
Only thing I'd change is to crop out some of the sky above the sun, as there isn't much to view there and the jetstream/clouds are a little distracting.

i didn't really notice the branches were there until after i took down the tripod and got back in the car. personally I dont think it would be too bad if there was plant life along the entire bottom of the image. I initially didn't zoom in anymore because I was hoping I would get more color out of the sky above the sun. i didn't really like the idea of cropping out part of the clouds because I thought it would take away from the "umbrella" look of the light rays. lessons learned: zoom in a bit and double check there's no plant life. thanks for the comments

It's a plenty good shot. :) Part of it, though, is learning how and where to crop, and burning and dodging (using various methods) in the digital post processing.

I left the frame as is, but removed the contrails which are a distraction and detract from the image, IMO. I adjusted the levels, curves and cut down the highlights with Shadow/Highlights (0 shadow, 23 highlight).

The scene had potential and i like kmorgans edit with the removal of the trails, i think a lot of the time your gut feeling is the way to go, if you're "not sure" if you like it then it's a sign that it's not your greatest work, your best stuff will make you say "I love it" straight away. This is one of those photos where you find yourself sayin "if only...." as i said no doubt it had potential it just didnt come out as a "wow" photo, its not bad though

Well, if you're going to take out the contrails, why not just photoshop in a UFO and put a volcano in the ocean? :) Cloning major things out of a photo isn't wrong, as long as you no longer pretend it's a photo.
Nice clone job, BTW.

Agreed! I never knew just how much PP was done to professional photos until I started in photography. Now each time I see a photo that looks "perfect" and absolutely incredible, I ask myself, "Now, is that what the photographer saw? Or is it what the photographer achieved after a little PS .... "
