I have never recorded in other than RAW mode with my G-cameras, so my new (about 1 hour old) Pro1 is sitting on my desk and the first test images are in my card reader. I have the latest FVU version (1.3.2) and the images wont convert.
Can someone with Pro 1 experience tell me how they convert their RAW images?
thanks so much,

Is the FVU 1.3.2 the version that came with the camera? I know it's the most current on the Canon website...but is it also the shipping version? Seems odd that they would not supply the correct software in the box...

What happens when you try converting them with BreezeBrowser? It's on www.breezesys.com.

The Pro 1 does not ship with FVU, only DoomBrowser.
Chris Breeze's BB latest version is dated Dec 2003, not recent enough to have any Pro 1 features.
I found a PhotoShop plugin hack for the Camera Raw utility. It works, but the image seemed exceedingly grainy at ISO 50. Perhaps this is a problem with the hack.
I will try the DB from Canon until something comes out officially, and report back.

FWIW, the BreezeBrowser 2.9 Beta was released a couple weeks ago. It does not support Pro1 raw conversion at this time.
To read Chris' comments on the issue in his Yahoo group, it seems that implementing raw conversion for 14 different Canon cameras is technically problematic.
He made reference to an upcoming Canon software release that may give us BreezeBrowser fans the support we need for the Pro1.

Install all the new stuff that came with the camera. The ZB EX bundled with the camera has a function called RAW Image Task. After downloading you select the RAW images you want to process, then either select Process RAW Images... from the Tools menu, or right click one or the selected RAW images and select Process RAW Images from the pop up menu. This will start RAW Image Task where you have a number of options to process them. When you are through, click the Save tab, select the conversion options you want and click Save to convert them.
I find it all a considerable improvement over the old ZB and FVU. If you select RAW images from other cameras, such as the Gs, ZB will start the old FVU 1.32. The new RAW Image Task will only process Pro 1 images and perhaps other cameras of the newest generation from Canon.
PS: There is already a ZB patch for the new version on the Canon website for the Canon Camera Support Core Library and a PDF telling youhow to find out if you need if and if so, how to instal it. k4201x. exe and k4202.pdf are the files to download.

The problem with Raw Image Task (RIT) is that is not a stand alone program, and must be launched within DoomBrowser. The problem with DB is that it tries to do too many things, and does most poorly. It's a photo organizer and renamer and cataloger and converter and viewerr, etc. All I want to do is convert my RAW images to 16bit TIFs to process in PSCS, all the other stuff is superfluous, hence a headache.
But, till there are alternatives...
thanks

Agreed. I particularly dislike the viewer. I only use it for conversion and weeding RAW.
