Which one do you like better? The New MINI Cooper or VW New Beetle?

Gee, I never would have thought that there'll be votes in a poll + topic accidentally posted in the wrong forum.
With all the stupid ideas and decisions VW is making nowadays, Mini's for me. (I was at first both a VW and Mini supporter) The only way VW's gonna get me to buy a car from them is if they throw in an EF 600mm f4L for free :)

Well, I believe the VW focuses a little faster, but the Mini provides sharper IQ. The build qual....Oh! Never mind.:)

Yeah, but they are both too small to comfortably hold without a grip. :p

One is a just re-skinned Golf that is:-
Too expensive (fact)
Impractical - no storage space (fact)
Dishonest- it ain't got an aircooled engine in the rear (fact).
Ugly (opinion)
The other is my baby :)

Mini coops have very bad QC. They are actually rated one of the worst cars to own in 2006.

With the chance of 2 Mini's being exactly the same being very very very very (say it 100 times) slim, these things are essentially custom built to order. Too few number of Rolls Royces to see if the "custom made=problematic low QC" string is true though

worst cars to own in 2006.
The survey you quote can't refer to the car we're discussing here, since it wasn't launched until the end of 2006.

As an owner of my 2nd New Beetle here's my 2 cents ;)
One is a just re-skinned Golf - True it has al lot of mechanical gubbings of one of the worlds most popular and succesful cars
that is:-
Too expensive (fact) Hmmmm and the Mini Cooper ain't ?
Impractical - no storage space (fact) You're kidding right ? after all it's just a golf in a skirt, Golf owners don't complain about this do they ? Although I've never owned the new Mini I'd be very surprised if it has more boot space than the NB
Dishonest- it ain't got an aircooled engine in the rear (fact).  And does the new mini only cater for 4 foot tall passengers, like the old one ?. It's a NEW Beetle, who the hell would want an aircooled engine in todays climate
Ugly (opinion)
Then you'd better close your eyes ;)

Personally I think the New mini can look a great wee car, I've seen quite a few over here I've liked, my problem with the Mini is they're out numberring the pigeons in my town, they're everywhere !!
The best NB to get is the 1.8 Turbo have the already detuned engine managment remapped for about $600 and you'll be putting out 230 BHP.
Each to their own I guess but no point bashing the NB with illinformed wibble wobble ;)

Bugg, love the first photo. I don't know much about cars, or care at this point in my life, but I must disturb the discussion and ask what focal length was that taken at? It looks like a pretty wide focal length with the sky and all, but the lack of distortion to the car makes me wonder differently.

17-40L at 17mm on a 350D so effectively 27mm so not really that wide, the fact I'd climbed into a ditch and was efectively at ground level with the car may have something to do with the angle to :)

Almost bought the Mini, but the dealer rejected my offer because it was about $1000 less than what they wanted. No big loss as it's a pretty gutless car, and the gauges are the worst I've ever seen. Was really fun to drive though, and I still would have bought it for the right price.
Of the two choices ... Mini, hands down.

No man EVER uses the word "cute" when referring to automobiles.

It's a body kit made by Votex, I think the V5 sports are similar in the US :)

Those are probably fog lights ..
Bugs that are built for European markets, come with different options like fog lights, and perhaps other little interior/exterior subtleties .. known as EDM (European Domestic Market) I own a Honda Accord, and have transformed as many things as I could, to make it appear JDM (Japan Domestic Market) and EDM.
For example, the interior door lights (located in the bottom corner of each door) in USDM Honda's, are white, or clear .. however, in Europe, because of fog or tricky lighting issues, they're a bright red .. another would be the fact that here in America, the Honda's headlights are a two piece construction. One piece being the actual headlight, and another being the turn signal. In Japan, it's all *one piece* .. and they're actually recessed a little differently.
There are many differences between JDM, EDM, and USDM automobiles .. allthough in most cases, those parts are quite available to be modified to suit whatever *appearance* one might desire.
For the OP .. I opted to vote for the Mini .. nonetheless, I'll keep my JDM/EDM Honda Accord which is almost complete. I have also installed the EDM gauge cluster. It's a riot to see the look on someone's face, when they sit in the drivers seat .. and go .. "OMG! This thing does 220?" :p

A VW bug is such a "chick" car. A guy can drive a Mini Cooper S and still be very cool and manly, but he can't get away with that in a bug. Sorry.
Maybe if it was a tricked out black VW bug with flames on the side of it or something....
