I've never tried this.. just want to point out what is hopeflly obvious..
You must use heavy filters. especially at the eyepiece.. to prevent what may be permanent damage to your eyes!

yes good advice ... but is there really people out there that would just point a cam at the sun?

im useing a sun filter for eclipses ie blocks 99.9% of light on me 300mm lens

and useing a thousand oaks sun filter on a etx90 scope with cam mount

Your manual warns against pointing any lens at the sun. It's not just your eyes that can be melted.

You can get the just the filters them selves. Adorama has them. You might have to adapt it but you definitely want a full aperture solar filter. Anyway, check these out. “click me (http://www.adorama.com/KDS5156.html?searchinfo=solar%20filter&item_no=4)”

anyone got any advice ?I don't understand the question.

People pics ... you get the people in the pic and that's it.
Landscape pics ... you get the landscape in the pic and that's it.
Cat pics ... you get the cat in the pic and that's it.
Spot the pattern here?

Maybe it would be better if you were to explain what you think you're trying to achieve...

what's the point of taking pictures of anything...it's probably all been done before anyway

Indeed, and if it's boring to you, don't do it. As far as sun pictures go though this one isn't particularly interesting, except for the fact that the small dot in the center just below the equater is Mercury.

Of course, you might get lucky and catch something like this. "click me (http://www.astrosurf.com/legault/iss_atlantis_transit.html)". Heck, the lens was even white. :):)

Interesting, a friend of mine just asked me yesterday how to take a picture of the sun. I told him I didn't really have any idea as I had not tried it myself. Asked him why he wanted one and he said because no one else take shots of the sun. Everyone does the moon but not the sun. I told him to start with the sunny 16 rule and move from there, but that I had no clue what would work. told him just to not look at the sun through the viewfinder. And maybe use a ND or CP filter.

haha, thats how i got into photography... the pics mostly being too small on the internet, not finding the right angles or details or just not finding the right picture period... so go make your own! I'm mostly into cars though.
