Hey guys..
A friend of one of my relatives offered me a Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8
in perfect condition, hood and filter included for a 100 euros (= about 130 US$). Since I don't know him, as well as I don't really know anything about this lens, I thought I would ask here before getting it. So what are you thinking?
regards and thanks,
matt

That looks like an old old variation that might not be compatible with your camera. I'd double check in all modes before you buy.

well i know that he used it w/ a 30D; so I think it should work w/ my 400d, doesnt it?
thanks for your input, I appreciate that

Yeah then it SHOULD work just fine! Just test it out in all camera modes and apertures just to be safe!

I think i read on this forum that the older Sigma's will work on your camera at wide open aperture but unable to stop down. So put it on your camera, make sure you can stop it down, then buy it. That seems like a killer price, I paid almost 3 times that for my sigma 24-70 f/2.8. Have you seen sample images with exif from that lens and camera combo?

I'd be careful. There are at least 3 versions of this lens and while the top version (constant f/2.8) are good lenses worth a fair amount of money the lower end is a decent deal at $130, but nothing special.
If you have the opportunity to actually try it out fully and take a look at some crops it may be a good call however.
