Hello there people...

First post. Newbie to the forum, but an oldish hand at shooting.

I have 2 5d bodies and just recently, one has started capturing some rather strange frames... I'm attaching a sample of some of the digital weirdness that is occuring. I only shoot in RAW and these were shot 15 seconds apart. Both were shot with identical settings. ISO200, f16, 160/sec. I simply opened the RAW files, stuck the two together in pshop, flattened and am trying to understand what is going on.

Whoever can give me a persuasive answer is the winner (of what, I'm not quite sure...)

I really appreciate any time and attention to this strange matter!

Best,

Stirling

Are those the only two files affected? If so, might be the card. If not, I would send it back to Canon, to check.

Sorry to see...and good luck finding a resolution.

To me it looks like the bottom shot is way way underexposed and had the exposure increased in RAW editor to compensate. Where these shot with flash? It's possible your flash did not sync or fire properly in the second shot

There is more light coming left in the first shot and in the second shot there is less so you see underexposure noise. The noise gets more as you move right across the frame away from the side lighting.

I appreciate all the responses... I've never seen this phenomenon with my 20d or 10d in 5+ years shooting canon dslrs... I was using a qflash with a pocketwizard. I was wondering if it's feasible that the flash fired a tiny bit early/late/weak and the resultant dark exposure was brought about by the low light... Thanks much for the feedback folks.

'dark exposure'...did you wait enough time to allow the flash to recycle fully, so that it could output the amount of light needed for the f/16 to photograph dark items?
