Just curious if those of you veteran Canon users think the upcoming 40D will use the same battery grip, battery, cable release etc as the ones compatible with the 20D/30D?

I bought a Rebel XT with battery grip, extra battery and cable release but I am not entirely happy with it so have just gotten a 20D and entertain the notion of getting a 40D if/when it comes out but do not want to get all those accessories for the 20D if they won't work on the 40D. What do you think?

grip? no.

don't get a grip --imho-- unless you do loads of portraiture.

As far as a grip goes, I love the grip on the XT but as the 20D fits my hand better I am going to use it a while before I decide whether I want one or not.

But whether I get one or not I simply am wondering whether it would be usable on a 40D.

Not sure. I know it will use the same lens :)

As for grip, not sure...

Probably not. If it is a real upgrade and just not another "N" camera than the grip should move in the direction of the 5D's grip quality, metal or possably weather sealed if the body goes that route.

20d/30d grips are controversial. so I'd like to have re-designed grips BG-E2N or BG-E6

Everything will be interchangeable. with the possible exception of the grip.. which Id say is 50/50% chance.

Why are 20D/30D grips controversial?

They acknowledged this issue nearly two years ago. I would think that any defective product would have worked its way through the supply chain by now so I don't know why this is a big concern.

I wouldn't bet on the exchange possibilities personally. I've been debating buying the 4gb ultra ii for my 20d because I heard a rumor a month or so ago of the 40d using sd media instead of compact flash. Who really knows what the 40d will use? I would expect complete interchangeability but I wouldn't be completely surprised if it wasn't.

I really dont see the 40D using sd, unless its sd and cf.

I don't know if it will be the same or not, but I LOVE the grip on my 30D. I would tell anyone with a 20/30 to get the grip.

And if by some odd chance you get one that has been sitting on the shelf for 2 years Canon will take care of you. People get all bent out of shape because the advisory is still on their web site. Would these people have felt better if the company never acknowledged the problem and stuck the people with the problem??
