Nick, what lens is this with? The EXIF info doesn't match your gear list...

How is that 28-135mm IS lens working out for you...Use it at all in low light shooting? With or without IS?

Nope that is the 50mm! I was able to shoot from pretty far back. Those shots are cropped too! The venue was quite dark so I didn't try the 28-135mm there, but I have used it with some luck, IS helps for sure.

here are two similar shots without noise added... I don't think I've added noise effectively with those first two.

On using noise, it's your personal call... depending on the targeted viewership it can work to your advantage... Your compositions are interesting and the pictures stand alone just on that basis...

Although I personally haven't added noise to my post processed photos...I most certainly have left it in, purposely to retain sharpness... There is room for experimenting based on the general atmosphere of the gig... and it's is a creative way to accentuate a particular mood of choice...

Run with it as the spirit moves you...

I like the last shot. Pity the bass player is behind the stand. Overall composition and crop is better then the first though.
Any chance you've got a third of the same setting? ;)
