The lens and other features of the Pro1 look like a significant upgrade over my G3.

OneCall (http://www.onecall.com/PMN_1308.htm?BCPID=119) has it on special today (and tomorrow?) for $843.22 with free FedEx shipping.

That's less than $50 more than I paid for my G3 18 months ago.

I'd love a DSLR, but with all the hiking and climbing I do I can't carry the weight or bulk.

Will I hate myself in the morning if I pass this up?

...maybe.

It is definitely a significant upgrade over the Gs and upped the whole prosumer category. Just to be sure it suits you, check out the Olympus 8080, Minolta Dimage A2 and the other 8MP newbies. Each has its pros and cons. I've not had my Pro 1 a week and only managed 290 shots and the little devil niggles me the whole time to pick it up and do something with it. I find it just the right size, weight and bulk for handling and the same for carrying.

BE AWARE of the consequences of 8MP!

- JPEG = 1.5 to 4 MB
- RAW = 8 to 10 MB
- TIFF conversion 8 bit = 24 MB, 16 bit - 46 MB

I'm already considering whether to increase my current 400 GB of HD space or be more discerning about what I keep, but probably both.

If your expectations are realistic, you won't regret getting it.
