I have the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 on my 400D (XTi) and am very happy with its general performance. My questions are

i) Does anyone use this lens to shoot weddings and if so how does it perform ?
ii) Given its fast AF, IS, USM and high IQ, would the 50mm 1.8 Mk II outperform it ?
iii) Ditto for the 50mm 1.4

thanks
Tony

A lot of people use this lens on a crop factor camera instead of the 24-70 f2.8. The advantages I see are IS which can be used a lot and the f2.8 is a good aperture. The 50 1.4 or 1.8 will give you an extra stop or two but they'll be less flexible than a zoom. If you are happy with your 17-55 then maybe pick up a 50 1.8 and experiment with it, they run cheap at B&H, around $70.

The 50 1.8 won't focus faster than the 17-55 but the 50 1.4 will under low light.

I think if you repost this is the wedding forum, you will get a better response, and find that this is THE lens of choice for most wedding photogs with crop cameras.
