Has there been any word on the new Canon EVU? My 15 day trial of C1 Rebel expired, I'm wondering if I should wait for the free EVU or plunk down the money for C1. I like C1, but if the EVU works just as well I would rather save the $50. Opinons?

My understanding is that it won't get released until the 1DMKII is since it comes bundled with it. So, if you can figure out when the 1DMKII is coming out, you'll have the answer to your original question. :D

EVU is the next replacement for FVU. It's supposedly a lot better than FVU.

Take a look:

http://www.robgalbraith.com/ubbthreads/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=219418&page=&view=&sb =5&o=&vc=1

- Does not allow continuous editing while converting/saving in the background

- Does not embed ICC profiles or enable selection of a monitor profile for viewing

C1 remains superior, in my opinion.

I assumed it was related to FVU.. but I couldn't figure what the "E" stood for.. and then the fact that these "SLR-like" Digicams are being called "EVF" for Electronic View Finder doubled my confusion :)

I'll give the new FVU a try when I get the MkII... it is an oddity that Nikons RAW software kicks Canpn's but so soundly..

Why can't Canon get it together on this,. after all Canon is the Computer company?

The preripherals of course.. but Canon has a Super Computer division..

http://www.cssi.co.jp/

"...represented in Japan with two systems acquired through Canon's Supercomputer Division which grew out of the acquisition of the Japanese Floating Point System (FPS) subsidiary some years ago. One of the two systems was sold to the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute (ATR) and the other one was used by Canon for benchmarking and system tests. Canon also markets Cray computers and operate a dual processor Y-MP/4E for the same purposes. nCUBE is no longer present in the Japanese portion of the TOP500 list . "

I'm betting that the RAW image task that comes as part of Zoom Browser EX with the Pro 1 is a version of the new EVU. Unfortunately it's not stand alone like FVU was, but that may come when officially released.
