A710IS questions

Newbie here with a couple questions about my 710 I recently picked up.

I'd like to get an aftermarket lens, been looking at Digital Optics 3x. have said don't mess with it, the camera has enough zoom. for the decrease in pic quality with the extra lens, it isn't worth it. True, not true.

Filters. Do the filters to reduce glare, etc really work? Again, people are saying you're just adding additional glass.

The main purpose of the additional lens is for pro baseball games.

Actually, as I posted earlier I had just got the camera. Since I posted I've been playing with it as you mention. I've been taking pictures around the house and neighborhood. I am quite impressed with it thus far. I've taken some pics of neighboring homes that are well over 300'away, some farther, and the zoom seems quite sufficient for the distance I'm looking at for the Detroit Tiger games I'm talking about taking pictures at. I know my seats for most of the games are only 100' from the field. We'll see. Thaks.
