I've been playing around with the software that lets me control my 300D from my computer. Is there any way with the included software to have the computer tell the camera what settings to use such as shutter speed and apature?

Also, does anyone know how I can write my own Visual Basic program to control the camera from the computer?

What is the longest USB cable I can use to connect my camera to my computer? Can I get a 50 foot cord, or is that too long?

50' cable might work, I dont know or think there is even a limit for it. I dont know where in the world you would buy a 50' USB cable, you may have to make your own.

50' is way too long. Length limit on 2.0 is 5 meters, 16.4'. You can pc-cable-hub-cable-hub-cable-camera, but that's just under 50 feet.

And not all devices honor that 5 meter limit, so you'll want to double check one to make sure your camera works. I know my printer doesn't like 5 meters.
