I've been practising with my 20d, 85mm portrait lens, experimenting with iso etc, I seem to get the better results when I have it on AV mode, at f2.2 or 2.8 and a high iso (sometimes use noiseninja afterwards) and letting the speed work itself out.

I still can't get very sharp pictures - is it my settings or is it just because I'm using handheld and no tripod ? Taekwon-do is a pretty fast sport, and the gymns are ALWAYS really badly lit. This photo is from squad training - I've only resized and added a watermark, no noise ninja or sharpening.

I'm attending the UK trials tomorrow so would appreciate any advice you can give.

HA! Great shot....I think it would have been the best shot had you gotten the rest of the kid in the picture and not just his foot..but great frozen shot of the action.

My sons both took TKD. I have taken many man pic's as an amature. I don't do it proffessionally, but keep my wedding and grads as my profession.

Would love to see more.

Well my "best" photos are far from good, but here's a shot of the same lad practising a jumping side kick:

Taken from a distance, and he was in the dark corner of the hall.
