i caught my nest for the first timer this past tues. i'm lucky i have a drive up eagle nest. We pulled in behind the bar and saw mom peeking over the rim of the nest . She was certainly sitting on eggs. DAD was coursing over a field behind the nest tree. He shot up to the nest bringing nothing.;) Much eagle yelling took place. Finally he moved to a perch 20 feet over from the nest keeping a sharp eye on us ground stompers. How did we humans learn about life? Nice shot BTW

Maybe lucky to find a driveup nest, but if you push them to hard they will leave and abandon eggs, eaglets and all.

Not to worry about spooking this eagle pair. If you can believe this the nest is on the property of a bar. Even better it is behind the volleyball courts. Naturally the bar sees the value of having eagles observable from its deck and hoisted a banner last year. I don't know how long the nest has been on this site. The bar looks old. My biggest fear is the Ohio dept of Natural rescources. They like to arrive before fledging with giant lift trucks to band young falcons and eaglets that they can reach by road:( . We are all wary of driving off nesting eagles. Last year we had our first producing pair in the Cuyahoga valley. Yes that Cuyahoga River, the one that caught fire in 1969. Over excited watchers surrounded the tree last Spring and the pair abandoned the tree with two eggs. Most birders I associate with in this area are mindful of all nesting birds. All of these cocks, drakes and ganders make it clear if you are over the line. So far the eagle male is just watchful of anyone near the tree. I also observe a Peregrine falcon nest on a bridge every year. Falcons are very agressive toward human interlopers. Not extreamly dangerous. The method of intimidation is to fly at the head. The talon is held in a fist and the person punched in the face or back of head. That with the shock of three feet of wings that close gets the birds feelings across. Be careful out there this nesting season.
good sightings to all,:)
