Haven't been around for a while now. Too much work, and I've finally decided to try to put an effort into my math/physics-courses so I hopefully can pass them ;)

Good to hear about your publication Jim :) Must be awsome to get printed :) I'm really happy for you, and wish you all good luck :) Hope you can scan the pages to show them off to us outside the U.S who can't buy the magazine easily :(

I'm a little exited myself right now. Although I'm far from getting anything printed in magazines, I'm about to start my first "photo-gig" ever, although unpaid :-P We crazy norwegians are once again hosting the worlds largest computer-party, starting this wednesday. Previous years I've been in the crew taking care of the gathering.org website (writing articles, doing interviews, and of course, shooting stills of the subjects beeing interviewed etc). This year I'm in the same crew, but have been asked to "officially" cover the party with stills. Won't give me any money though... But at least, all major newspapers and Television-stations in norway cover the party, and although those photographers are the one getting paid for their effort there, at least now I get access to equally good shooting-locations as them during concerts and such beeing held in there :) And if things go as good as last year, I might get the image-archieve slashdot'ed (for those knowing the term). Last year I was a regular participant (brought my girlfriend then). But regardless of that I shot a _LOT_ of images, and served them on a public web-server from my personal computer inside the party. The archieve got quite popular quite fast, and eventually I got the archeive slashdot'ed. Wholy crap, that was 57GB+!!!! of pictures beeing served out of my computer in less than 10 hours (thank God for gigabit fiber-connections ;)), while the article still was on the frontpage of slashdot.org. So hopefully I get this years archieve slashdot'ed as well :) I'll give a note with the url to the archieve as soon as I get up to the ship on Tuesday, and get connected. Cant guarantee for the quality of the pictures, but I can guarantee the sheer size of the whole arrangement might drop a few jaws on those of you who haven't seen a major computer-party before ;)

In other good news, I felt like beeing sporty some weeks ago. I went to see the last world-cup event in the Ski-jumping cup. Probably not a very well-known sport for you americans, but it sure is for us scandinavians =D Ordered tickets late, so we actually got so crappy tickets that we weren't allowed into the stadium-seats, but had to stand further away. The fog was unbearable. Couldn't see SH*T! I got tired, and thought: What the heck, I got my 10D in my bag, why not try doing something possible very foolish..... so I did ;) I mounted the 70-200mm Sigma, and hung the cam around my neck and started walking into the stadium. And it actually worked! All the guards I passed mistook me for a press-photographer, and didn't ask to see accredentials or tickets. I was able to walk all the way down to where all the other press-folks had gathered. All the shots where terrible screwed by the dense fog, but I think some of them got pretty good anyhow. At least I got close to the athlets. The pictures are here:

And in other.... totally irrelevant news, some model-plane hobbiests gathered down on the icy "fjord" outside where I live to fly there planes a short while back. Took with my 10D and 70-200 Sigma to try capturing the planes. Hard indeed, since they fly at 100mph+ but the weather was good, and some of the pics where ok to I think :)

Anyways.. See you guys. Got to sleep some before work now. And when returning from work, my computers and camera-gear is getting packed down. Then some more sleep, and then finally start my 2hour drive towards The Gathering =D (www.gathering.org). I'll post a note when I'm online from inside the location, to give you URL to the image-archieve covering _THE_ geek experience =D

Why Thanks vvizard! I'd wondered where you'd been. Yeah it's pretty awesome finally "getting the call." Nothing wrong with a free gig. They sometimes open doors. Always shoot like you're shooting for money and people will ask.

I remember when my wife and I were down at Hood River, Oregon shooting the windsurfers. Everyone was asking who wew were shooting for and I handed out a dozen biz cards. If you keep knocking on the door someone will eventually answer.

I love your story about your bold walk into press-land at the ski jump! That's awesome!! Great shots of the skiers and the model planes too. Those must have been a pain to shoot.

Good to have ya back...

Wow! You remembered me =D That was very nice to hear :) I was afraid of answers like "vviz...who??" Well, rest assured, I'm back! ;) And even though I haven't been noticable around latly, I've been lurking around in the dark shadows, keeping half an eye on this board ;)

Anyway, I'm just sitting in front of my computer, and having my annually emotional moment before starting my pilgrim-travel to "Mekka" ;) This party is as close as a "Mekka" you get for us norwegian geeks. At least the ones of us who don't have time and/or money to go to the "real" Mekka(& Symphosium) in Germany instead. And for outsiders "our" Gathering is probably more spectacular, since it's the largest of it's kind in the world :) Think most of my camera-stuff have been packed now. I'm about to turn my computer off. It looks so sad now. Knowing that once again it will be coupled up with all those pesky worm-and-virus-spitting windows-machines, not longer protected by it's NAT-gateway home. But he's strong, I think he'll survive this year too ;) Hopefully alive enough to process some RAW's also =D

Speaking of those, I'm trying to use jpeg when the shot really doesn't matter "that much" now. You see, Gimp-2 have been released, and it've actually made me completly drop photoshop for everything other than raw-conversion :) Which also means I only need to boot up my emulated windows for raw-conversions, and can quit it (and free up the 768MB RAM I'm letting it chew)) as soon as the conversion is done :) Now if only Gimp can get raw-conversion (let it happen, _LET IT HAPPEN!!!_) =D

Pray for me not making a complete fool out of myself during my photo-assignment =P
