I have no idea what happened. We went to a festival today. Took some pictures with it.

I just tried to download the pictures and nothing was happening- long story short- it's broken. There's a rattle inside of it like something broke or came loose.

I really like this little guy. It's been such a great little camera for the past 5yrs. I fell pretty bad about it right now.

Question now is can it be repaired or should I just get a new camera? I have the XTi, but my s30 was great for everyday candid stuff. Like the festival today.

Any advice?

I think that old cameras should be replaced in occasions like this one - the cameras today are far more advanced and produce much better quality pictures. And above all - the prices are much lower than 5 years ago. Look for cameras like A710IS, SD700/800IS or even A630/A640 - they are very reasonably priced and produce excellent quality photographs.

I'd agree that it's worth the shopping for a new model. For not much different than the repair cost you'll get more camera.

Sigh. New camera I guess it is then. I really liked it though.

It was our first digital camera. My husband bought it for me for Mother's Day when my boys were 2 & 1yrs old. It has taken some wonderful pictures and movies of my boys in the past 5yrs.

Gah! I can't believe I'm this upset over a camera.

Seems like just yesterday Digital Cameras were coming out. Just think of your camera like a computer. You did alot of fun things on it... played good games, wrote good people emails. It saved alot of the pictures of your family, but after a coupel years, that old box needs to go to make room for the new computer. Technology advances to fast, I'm afraid to spend to much money on anything nowadays cause I know it'll be half price and half as good in just 1 year.

Just some thoughts -
When you say you tried to download your pictures, does that mean you could see them displayed in the camera? Did you try to download direct from the camera or from a card reader?

As mentioned, the cost of repair, if you can find anyone to work on a camera that old, would cover a large portion of a new camera. I can feel you loss as I have a S45 which has traveled many times with me. A campera the has many functions that still fits in my pocket.

Good luck

I went to download and nothing happened. So I disconnected it from the USB and tried to just turn the power on and nothing happened. Can't even just look at the pictures using the little sliding button on the back. Just dead. :(

I guess I should be excited about getting a new camera. But I'm not. The money we spend on it could've gone towards a flash or another lens for my XTi. :p
