Bride arriving in the car... keeper or not?

I say keep it Tim, depending on what else you have in your session of course, but I think this image adds some artistic aspects when added with standard traditional and solid other less traditional shots it can be very positive image.

I know how you feel, its taken me a few minutes to decide, I'd finally say no just because its a bit too arty. I mean we as photographers would like it, but the bride?

Now I come to mention it my wedding album had a photo of a squirrel in it :) we loved that shot!

it's in focus, it's exposed well and it's interesting...sounds like a keeper to me.
eyes dead center is the only thing messing with it for me.

I say keep it because it's a bit mysterious. All you see is her eyes...not her mouth...so it's open to interpretation.

It was incredibly dark, I was lucky to get even one shot, and I had to PP to get it looking right. Can crop to take eyes off centre. Poll is running 3/3 yes/no right now.

I voted to keep it but you said it was incredibly dark so I might pitch it if it has so much noise it can't go very big if the bride would want it large, ie if it's limited to a 4x6 or so.

ISO 800 but well exposed so would be fine up to 8x12" I guess.

If it does turn out to be a keeper it would be interesting to find out what the Bride thinks about it as I think its one of those that artistically fellow photographers can appreciate it but quite possibly a bride wouldnt think much of it. When I first saw it it reminded me of a photo in Jeff Ascoughs portfolio, in fact the 3rd pic that you see in his portfolio that I would have binned if I had taken it myself, but then I guess that just shows you how different some peoples tastes are and how subjective these things are.
p.s. Voted to keep cos I wanna know what the bride thinks of it.:)

I wouldn't ditch it, but I would have loved to see it without the other head in the foreground - could have been a killer image if you were able to see more of her face.

I agree Dan, but the person driving the car might've objected to me removing her head ;)

Tim, I agree with this line of thinking. It's interesting to me because I can appreciate it. I wonder what your client's think.

Still running even in the poll. I'll give it to them and let you know if I get any comment on it.

Tim, do you have any other images, to "set the scene" for this one?

Not really, nothing much happened before the bride arrived. I was asked to come to the ceremony but not before. No amazing photos from this wedding, it was so dark, so wet, and I had so little time with them.

Here is a question for you Tim,
What do YOU want? I mean before you started seconding guessing yourself what did you think of this image?
My advise is to go with your first gut feeling cause right or wrong in the future you follow yourself and your feelings you will sleep better at night!

Thanks for the thoughts Mike. It shows the bride (well her eyes) as she was just before her ceremony, and capturing the emotion of the day is what I aim to do.
It's a keeper.

Its a good pic...but...it kinda looks like you had a finger on the lens. I'm assuming it's someone's head but it could easily be confused for a digit :) Pity she wasn't looking straight at you. Great pic otherwise.

My initial reaction was that it's a keeper. I was drawn straight to the eyes to begin with and sort of got tunnel vision regarding the surroundings within the photograph. But as I continue to look the driver's haireline and forehead do detract. If that could be made more abstract and less like the top of a head then I reckon you strengthen the case for keeping the shot.
I would say the choice comes down to whether you have similar "arty" photos within the shoot or if this one sticks out as being a bit different. If it's in keeping with other shots then I say keep it. If it's a one-off then lose it.

I say toss it. I'm not impressed. A close up of the eyes at a certain moment in time doesn't make it a good photograph. I'm saying this with the assumption that you have other photographs of the bride before the ceremony, even if not necessarily getting out of the car.

What's the down side to keeping it? They might like it a lot or not at all, but if you decide for them, they don't have that option. Hey, half the people here like it and this is generally a pretty honest, but critical group. So I say keep it.

Tim, I'd keep it. But as mentioned, it's sort of an artsy, mysterious shot... so I would give it some more PP to make it more dramatic. BW or duotone? I dunno.

I say keep it, but maybe crop off some of the driver's forehead so it's not quite as distracting. I don't mind the eyes being centered, because she starts to the left of the frame.

I think its a keeper. I think its always neat to see some different (not the norm) type of shots in wedding albums. Show the bride the pic my guess is she will really like it.

It's a keeper...you are drawn right into her eyes. I like the shot..I know what you think with the head in the foreground etc. But I find it rather interesting shot. I like it.

I like it and think it is a definite keeper - if it were me I would crop some of the head from the bottom of the photo.

I'm of the opposite. I think the bride may like it, but i think there's a tad too much of the head(since its blonde hair) right below that pulls away from it.

Wow! This is still neck and neck. I thought the shot of the bride would have been nice, if the head wasn't there. Since you don't want your bride thinking you 'almost got a good shot,' I'd personally throw it away. I bet you have lots of other stuff that won't make her think that at all.
