Anyone have any experience using the 200mm f2.8L with a 2X TC? Are the results better, worse or on a par with the 100-400 f4.5-5.6L IS at 400?

i dont own either lens so i can't say - but what i can say is i know primes work well with teleconverters, or atleast better than they do with zoom lenses. why not just try it out?

I recenlty bought the 2x used.

If you assume that the 2x TC works better on primes, then taking into account the results I am getting on my 70-200 f2.8 IS, I think it would be acceptable.

I have the Sigma 1.4 and 2x converters for my 200mm prime. I don't have the 100-300, but would be happy to do some testing and compare notes! Maybe we could take a picture of a street sign at a particular distance or something. I'm getting really nice results so far. It's a sunny day here and I could do some testing in about 2 hours if you want some samples.

Can you use a Sigma 2x tc on a Canon 70-200 2.8 Is ?

I'd put my $ on the 1-4IS...easily.

I'd put my money there too, but don't have that much, so here's a result from my backyard with the 2x on the 200mm - handheld - wide open at 5.6.

I just cropped out the center. I don't know if that is 100% or not. Here it is. I have sharpening in DPP set at 70 on this picture.
