First time shooting football & First shots with my new 300 2.8 lens , not making excuses but was also harsh lighting with the game being played north to south & the sun in the east so please have a look and be honest with me so i can learn

First image is well exposed, has both players faces and the ball in the frame, thumbs up. The second image seems to have alot of space above the players and very little around the feet. I'm not keen on seeing the back of players either, but thats me.
For football I tend to shoot from a low angle, normally seated, meter off the grass and shoot in manual.
Remember to try and get the ball, faces, level horizons, goals, celebrations, reactions from managers and players and of course peek action ....................I wish

#1 is good but could do with a tighter crop
#2 I'm not keen on as one player is looking at the ground and one has a back to you
Were you using the 300 2.8 IS model?

get a stool
Now theres a new one liner ! Kipax, how did/is your exhibition going?
Gary, don't think this is Assc res vs Hamworthy res as the Assc res played Poole res at Follands. With the stripes and in hamble lane looks more like the Harrier game from the rec, next to the school on Hamble lane.

Shaun I stand corrected your right it was harrier from the rec , thanks for the tips , Tony I had thought about a stool ,but my only thought is I have had a look around a lot of the local grounds they all have a type of guard rail , and my thought is i would be at the wrong height , does anyone else have thought on this , Darren yes its the 300 2i8 IS its a very good lens,
again many thanks for the help/tips

I shoot non-league footie and if there is a railing in the way, I request permisson from the ref and captain's to sit on the other side. Simple really.
The Captains never say no as they think they might be in the newspaper and I've only had 1 ref say no and the club secretary and ground owner overruled his decision! You don’t ask you don’t get :D

Best shot is #1 inspite of tricky lighting. Agee about the stool. Go to Milletts and get a collapsable one for £2.99.

I wouldn't just turn up at Totton on Sat, I would make contact somehow.
You will need to be pitchside, make sure you have public liability/indemnity insurance for this, as there will be a fairly large crowd and swinging bits of white glass might upset some people!!!

and what are the settings of the shots?
Where did you stand to shoot?
at what time that match was?
I have about half an hour or less to leave, so i don't know what to do?
Still i didn't get used to my new 300 and i am confusing with camera settings and with the timing and the place to shoot, i tried my 70-200 in the past, it was so handy and long enough for some actions and too short for another, and in my last thread of sports with my new 300 all the shots were too far and too short ad i cropped alot, because from the place i stand to shoot most actions were very close and i didn't get them with my 300 at all, only half bodies.
