Gary, while I agree with you that this image is lacking in contrast, I dare say, that your improvement has not corrected the problem, please don't take offense at these statements you guys, I just wanted to comment and say that I don't see much of a difference between the two.

Not at all, thats why I have editing selected.

Something is /was not on the money. I believe that I had to use too much of the shadow tool because in the original their faces were pretty dark. It's a challenge to have the camera set for not blowing out the whites of the adults and seconds later trying to properly expose for the darks of the juvi's.
