I was fortunate enough to get to go see my favorite country band - Blackhawk in concert on Friday night and toted my camera along with. We got inside and wound up talking to the owner of the place and he hooked us up with Backstage meet and Greet passes. Thought Id post a few images of the concert. C&C welcome as this is my first indoor concert shoot. I mainly shoot outdoor concert events from the light towers or mixing booth, and backstage afterwards

Just curious...
Would really like to see the EXIF properties to fairly comment...
What do you need the 17-40 f4 L for? It's too slow for concert stage pics...
How many total pics taken, is this set of three, representative of?

I need a 17-40L for my lightning photography. I shot about 200 some images that night. The top two images were shot using my 28-135 IS at ISO 800, 1/60 at f5.6. I brought my walk around lens because the crowd can get rowdy and didnt want my 70-200 f2.8 to get bumped around being on the floor up front. Third image was ISO 100, 1/60 at f5.6.
Thanks,

Thanks,
I like that 28-135 IS...Tried it at the concerts and it was a bit slow cause I used ISO 400...
I primarily use the 50mm 1.4 and the 85mm 1.8 primes..Love'em... I only use ISO 1250, 1600 for night shows, and in an emergency 3200 works AOK too...
The new ISO 6400 Canon DSLR is out in March and will substantially change concert photography as we know it...
Out of two hundred pics is what I started with... Now, after more than 60 shows this past year I'm shooting only in RAW... and last week used up 11.5 gigs of memory...needed plenty of guaranteed sure bets, for a prominent band's requests...
You'll want to get comfortable and continue to keep the face free of the mike and it's shadows...I like the group shot...the first two are pretty good but there is room for improvement... If you shoot 500-600 pics, the best ones start falling out of the mix, but I find that it always takes #'s...
Check out my "Kansas" posting from this past weekend...for an idea of ISO 1600 with a 50mm 1.4 prime...The thread is already on page two here.

Nice pics Paul. I'll try to catch them the next time their in town. They were just a couple minutes away. Good to see someone post from this neck of the woods.
