Using Capture 1 LE...

I'm trying to apply the settings that I make for the first image to the rest of the images in a "batch" but fior some reason it never applies the settings.

Here's what I am doing, let me know what I'm missing;

I highlight three images in the browser,. under the "develop" tab on the right I click "Add the selected captures to the batch" at which point the names of all three files appear immediately below.

In the large preveiw pane the first of the three images is visible,. using that image I set all the desired settings in the "Gray balance", "Exposure", and "Focus" tabs.

Then I develop the images.

The first time I did this NONE of the images had any of the changes applied.

Next I discovered in each of the tabbed control windows a tiny button that looks like three cascaded windows.. hovering the mouse over these buttons reveals "Apply these settings to the current selection of captures"

I need to hit this button in ALL of the tabbed windows,. (ie: exposure, focus etc.. at least I think I need to do this all of the tabbed windows?)

After I did this I clicked "develop the batch" again..

This tine all the settings were applied to the single image that I had in the large preview windw.. but the other two were redeveloped with none of the settings applied again ???

This IS a batch process.... right?

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Do NOT put them in the batch as your first step. They will be converted as they entered the batch.

In the capture (browser) window, ctrl+click to highlight the images you want to process. Make the WB changes for the first image, then hit the blue cascading windows button to apply those changes to the others that you selected. Do the same for exposure. (I tend to do exposure first, but that's just preference.) Adjust sharpeness if desired (I leave mine at my preset of "soft" sharpening, 300, threshold 4 for 10D images, but this is probably too much for other cameras.) THEN put things in the batch to convert all at once.

Next time RTFM ( HA! You knew that was coming! )

P.S. Keep in mind that ONLY THE FOCUS WINDOW accurately shows the amount of sharpening and noise reduction that will be applied - in other words, it is the only true representation of how the processed image will look, as it is based on the full-rez file rather than the made-on-the-fly preview. You can adjust the size of the focus window to suit your needs. Some people complain that the processed file is softer than what they saw in the preview; this explains why.

P.P.S. The sharpen settings above give me an image that is pretty much ready for print. If I plan to do additional work in PS, I suggest using less and then sharpening later in PS.

P.P.P.S. YES, to answer your question directly, you need to hit the blue (apply to all) button in each tab (well, really only WB and Exposure. Focus is optional.) There is not an "apply all of the previous settings" button on the develop tab, though that's a good idea.

O-kay,.. nope,. I still have one image with the settings applied and two without???

The difference is that THIS time when I hit the "Apply these settings to the current selection of captures" button I could see the settings being applied to the thumbnials to the left of the main preview window???

So the thumbnails have the correct colors and exposure etc.. but the final images still look as plain and boring as before,. they were not processed with any of the color balance, exposure settings.. etc.

Aaaarghhh.

Very odd.

1st things 1st: you do have a manual, the help file.

Open C1, hit the F1 key to bring up the help window. In Contents, go to Workflow Overview, then Simplified Workflow. Follow along.

Not working yet?

Try the Step by Step help section. Do it step by step.
