Private exhibitons

If I have exhibitions set to only be viewable by certain users then those exhibitions still show up to the public just with no photos viewable.
How do I make the private exhibitions not show up at all?

Further investigation shows that it's groups that show up, including groups with no public exhibitions in them. So, how do I hide a group?
