I was, and i just decided to spend the money on it and i'm so glad i did.

The added weight and size is amazing, balances the camera perfectly as well as alllows my big hands to actually fit. The vert. sutter button makes portraits so simple...i'm just shocked this wasnt one of the first things i bought.

And here is the picture i have yet to find on the internet.

lol,.. 10D owners say the same thing... but on the much lighter DRebel. I am sure the difference is even more pronounced :)

...you have a factory second Rebel by the way, the logo was installed backwards

Nothing wrong with it...he just got the left-handed version.

I found that the BG-ED3 works well on the 10D as well and makes it look cooler. I'm about 5' 8" and the 10D seems small without it. I'm guessing you're brobably bigger than I, unless the 300D is that much smaller. I am only going off the pic posted. Now you understand why I recommend it. We have another person that agrees. Cool! I also like the fact that I can spread out my fingers more and apply a more mangrip to the camera and it has no problems. LOL!

I gotta get the ambidexterous version so if one hand gets tired, I can just switch and be good again. :)

Thats something i forgot to add, it makes the camera damn sexy.

And for the record i'm about 5'11"

Well I'm a little bit larger than you all,.. but quite frankly I never really felt I needed a firmer or larger grip on the 10D...

But then,. It doesn't kick like my 454 Casull when I shoot it

...this has a big grip :)

I am leaving the you being sexy alone! I figured you had a few inches on me. Man I hate being short! The weird bit is that I have a size 12 sneaker. Riddle me that one! I am a sasquatch!

Well that puts CDS over 6' then. I am used to being the short person around. One of my colleagues is about 6' 5" so it is rather amusing with us.

After you shoot with the grip on for a couple months and then you it without to use that one battery that does fit in the grip, but does the camera, if feels so awkward.

I recently bought the BG-ED3 for the 10D and absolutly am in love with it, I think it's overpriced as hell, but man I don't want without it anymore.

And when I look at the price for the N*kon I can only smile.

Greetings,
Frank

Timmy,

Move up all the way. You need the E1 hand strap:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=12984&is=REG

It will set you back another $22 and 2 hours figuring how to put it on. Some have worked out how to put on the hand strap and the neck strap so that you never have an excuse for missing that shot of the bald eagle that happend to squat on your property for a few minutes.

Note that the hand strap was designed for the grips on the EOS IV and 1D. Not too shabby!! :)

Personally, I find this to be a much better strap. It locks around your wrist so that if you release the camera from your hand or it gets knocked out of your hand in a crowd, it won't fall. It saved my F5.

Do you have to detach the grip to use a tripod?

Do you have to detach the grip to use a tripod?
No -- the grip screws into the camera tripod mount on one side and provides the altnernative tripod mount on its inferior face.

I actually got sick of my neck strap the other day and thought i might want a hand strap soon...i'll have to take a look at those.

I don't seem to be able to hold a camera as still as I used to. But the BG really seems to help alot, especially when I have a long lens on. It's a great addition to my kit. Regards [F.R.] :) :)

Here's a really silly question--how tight do you adjust the strap? I've been futzing with mine and find that if it's too tight I get a sore hand and have trouble reaching the vertical knob with my index finger, and if it's too loose it loses its effect.

Well i bought the 1oD with the BigEd grip at the very beginning. So therefore i don´t have any idea how my 10D feels without the grip

Too clear things up.... I´m a bit tall (over 6 feet  )
and i also have a grip on my (old) Rebel 2000/EOS 300 and learned the advantage of it. Even though the BigEd is quite pricy... that´s why i did´nt hesitate to purchase the 10D including the BG3ED .

Oh yeah.... my feet (shoes) are quite big too :P

Ed

I'm almost convinced. I'll try that thing in store - the next time I'm in B&H.
The thing is that I try to shoot with a tripod as much as possible, so I have a quick release plate always attached to the camera. I'm not sure if a grip is a good idea for me.

The grip will take a release plate.. (ie: it has a tripod mount) But,. I do find that the tripod mount is not quite so stable on the Big ED as when it is mounted to the body directly.. there is some "flex"

That said... it is only a concern with large heavy lenses... and quite frankly the moment I have a lens that large I am mounting to the tripod collar... not the body/Big Ed. With the smaller lenses (17-40, 50mm) I do not perceive any weakness in the Big Ed to tripod attachment.

...so depending on your lenses.. the "flex" in the Big Ed may be a none issue.

I keep it as snug as possible without making it difficult to get my hand in and out. That makes it possible to move my thumb around to the various buttons on the beck of the camera while effectively releasing my grip, but without fear of dropping the camera or my hand slipping out of the strap.

The other benefit is that when I'm carrying the camera at my side, it's easier on my hand if I don't have to consciously grip the camera quite as hard as I would if the strap was loose. I don't have a neck strap on the camera, so when not in use, I can't just let it dangle from the strap. It stays in my hand, so hand fatigue could be an issue if the hand strap isn't doing its job.

Rudra,
Yes you can.

Sorry i am bit confused. :-p
So can one use the battery grip & the hand grip(strap) simultaneously ?
Again can you mount all of this on a tripod ?

I believe the grip has it's own tripod mount, so it should mount just the same as if you had no grip at all. I want to get one, but I'm kind of curious as to how much flex there will be. I guess I should try one out to see for myself. :)
