Ok, it's probably not as exciting as you might think, but I processed an entire wedding without opening photoshop CS2 once.
LIGHTROOM RULES!!
Normally, this would have taken a LOT of time in CS2 due to lots of cloning/healing that had to be done. But nope, not this time.
CLONING/HEALING non-destructively on RAW files RULES!!
Sorry, may not be exciting to you, but I just found it to be quite a remarkable feat. sweet!
ok, I'll shut up now.

Did you notice a time savings? I think I have procrastinating shooting raw for the pp time, but lightroom is tempting me to buy it and shoot raw.

Well, I've uploaded some earlier, but they were the jpg files 'cause I was shooting RAW+sJpeg. Don't have any online at the moment...

Actually, this one went a good deal slower because it was my first wedding using Lightroom. I was trying to create some useful presets that would make subsequent weddings faster. So as of yet, I don't know, but I really am liking it better in comparison to what I've tried in the past. (ACR and Bibble)
The clone/heal tool is new and unheard of in raw processors. The red-eye removal is also neat but sometimes seems to miss the mark. I'm sure they'll improve it in the upcoming patches.

awesome. Its definetly the way to go when ever possible. Now share your presets ;)

I've found the same thing with Aperture. It's literally cut my processing down by about 3/4s (what took me an hour now takes me 15mins).

Lightroom is faster for me too. I need to take Cory's advice on another and add more presets. Plus, on an Intel Mac, the processing is quick compared to CS2, and CS3 is still kinda buggy for me. It's a great application, esp. for the price.
Cheers

Actually, my presets are still kinda crappy. I have a lot of tweaking to do before it works well. Then I'll share.
No aperture for me. I'm on PC. But lightroom has been doing the job really well.

completely different things, both great and useful if not needed, but they aren't competiting against each other

Great stuff Lloyd.
I've been thinking about moving to Lightroom, currently I use Raw Shooter Essentials, which is a huge improvement over A.C.R. but it sounds like Lightroom is much, much better.
Does anyone know if Lightroom is just as compatible with PS version CS as it is with CS2 or CS3? Am I going to have to upgrade my Photoshop?

Mike, I haven't tried myself (I use CS2) but I'm guessing it'll work just fine with CS. Lightroom is supposed to be the next version of Raw Shooter so you'd probably find the switch easy.

I also found lightroom works better than Aperture for me, I havent open up Aperture ever since I start using lightroom, a little quicker and smoother on my mac. But I still learning and getting use to the interface.

I've been using Lightroom too for a few weeks. I always shoot RAW. LR is amazing, and like you, I don't open PS anymore, well, maybe for one or two pictures of the whole set (500+). Anyone thinking of buying LR, go ahead, is a great program.

Everything he said can be done with JPEGs too... Lightroom treats them essentially the same, although the lattitude for making changes is of course greater in RAW source files. I have very little RAW experience but using Lightroom, its no different from working with JPEG files.

Ya, I'm very happy with it. A lot of people complained about the bugs in the first release, but there always is in first releases. There aren't many and there also aren't many features I think are missing, so I think that they've got a great piece of software, especially considering that it's only in version 1.5.

Well download a 30-day trail of LR version 1.0 from adobe.com, you'll find it is much more reliable and has a bunch of new features aswell.

Do you need to run windows on the mac to run lightroom? So which one is better ? Lightroom or Aperature and why? Do you guys really avoid using photoshop for the majority of the photos when you use these workflow programs? I am just starting to use iphoto to rate and sort my photos - I'm guessing aperature blows that away?

LightRoom runs on Mac's as well as Windows PC.
Have used both and have to say I prefer Lightroom over Aperture....
Both blow iphoto away....

Only a few more days to get it at $199. Goes up April 1 to $299 so I am getting ready to spring for it. Problem is there are so many raw converters worth having. I am thinking about DxO as well. Damn, this is getting expensive!

How are you handling the sharpening? Are you using the LR sharpener or batching a set of converted jpg's?

I use the lightroom sharpening. I hardly sharpen stuff at all. My lenses are razor sharp so adding more just makes it look fake. I don't know why people hype up sharpness so much. There is so much more to a photo than that. People probably think my photos are soft but I don't care, and neither do the clients.

I downloaded the Beta4 trial. I believe there is also a Version 1.0 trial, but don't take my word for it. Check the adobe.com site.
I soon purchased it after using Beta4 for cheap, thanks to the intoductory price and Corey's macworld coupon code!
