There was a post - I think in the "talk about photography" section, or perhaps "post processing", where a photographer indicated that she had some online lessons. I glanced at her page and the information was useful. I am trying to find the post (therefore the link) to go back.

I think that since she was offering something for nothing - a rarity these days - the "Spam" button must have gotten pushed and post deleted.

As I said, I looked at her page and could not find any "You must buy 9 lessons to get the free one" kind of BS that would make it spam.

I think it is a shame that if someone offers something for fun and for free there is an automatic cloud of suspicion.

In any event, could you please reinstate her post as I am interested in looking at her lessons, and the link is now gone.

Oh, I also see that she has been banned.

I would like to PM her for the info. Does being banned mean that she will not get a private message? How about her sending one, will I get one from her?

When a user is banned it is not possible to send PM's to that user and the user cannot use the forum.

I was afraid of that.

What about relinking the post, would you at least do that. I wanted to explore her tutotials further, and without a the link in her post I don't think even Google will help. I know her name is Cindy, and Goggling "Cindy" and "Photographer" gave me 1,080,000 hits.

There was a post earlier that was offering something for nothing. Free online tutorials. I glanced at the posters site and it looked promising.

The post was deleted and the user banned (in my opinion too aggressively) before I had a chance to follow up.

Since not everyone shares the same definition of "Spam", and there is the possibility for human error, why not have a "Graveyard" forum of all the banned posts. They could be there for "x" amount of time, they could be locked, so they wouldn't generate unwanted activity, BUT, they would still be available for the benefit of the percentage of the POTN membership who might be interested.

It would sure beat the situation I find myself in - wanting to follow up on something but having no avenue to do so because the thread was deleted without warning.

Of course Pekka can say otherwise but I seriously doubt that we will allow spam posts to stay just one second longer than necesary. Every second a spam post is available for public view they get the attention they want and we do not want to provide that to them.

In the specific case pretty much all the moderators online at the time saw that post as spam and therefore it was removed. I will make sure the other moderators see your question about the thread in question so it can be discussed if it should be restored.

Rad, the definition of what is and isn't Spam on the POTN forum is decided by POTN.
(yes we get input and appreciate it via reported post!)

But we are not open to additional input on that subject.

An individual posting multiple threads, all solely to advertise or self promote, with no other posts on the forum or history, is by our definitions spamming. Open and shut case. (We too glanced at the site and saw that you don't get anything for free)

If you were looking for the link, a simple PM to a Mod would be able to provide it, but using this personal case as a means to post multiple threads questioning the POTN Spam policy and to make suggestions re: new Spam forums is counterproductive.

Keeping POTN Spam free is one of our goals here, and the single task that takes the bulk of our time. We have no leeway on this subject.
